Narrative dance works have appeared in a large quantity in recent years,especially a series of excellent works have emerged,such as Children of The Country,Chinese Mom,War Horse and so on.Many creators have begun to focus on narrative dance works and introduce multiple artistic means into their creations.Under this development background,an increasing number of creators begin to pay attention to the life and the times,and rely on narrative dance creation themes to present the most sincere emotions of contemporary people.The creation of narrative dance works usually bases on the "narrativity" while the"narration" function of dance woks are supported commonly by the multiple elements in the works,wherein the "character relation" setting goes through the overall creation process and plays a decisive role.This paper mainly conducts theoretical and practical explorations from the following aspects:Firstly,the basic concept and characteristics of narrative dance are combed.Literary narration is used to comb the historical context and basic characteristics of narrative dance so as to lay a foundation for further research.Secondly,the main presentation and role of“character relation" in narrative dance are expounded,and the significance and role of"character relation" are analyzed from the aspects such as establishment of narrative subject,setting of drama conflict and emotional expression of works.Finally,combined with the author's practical experience in creation,the problem how to grasp and apply "character relation" correctly and reasonably in the whole creation process is explored deeply from the practical perspective,which is helpful for realizing the narration function of narrative dance.
