A Study Of The Meaning Of The Chinese Modal Verb "Yao"

Chinese modal verb Yao,one of the typical modal verbs,has always been the focus of attention of researchers.The previous studies mainly focus on the single description and analysis of Yao’s grammar,semantics and pragmatics and have achieved some outstanding research results,which to some extent explains the use of Yao in language.Meanwhile,they also highlight current limitations in the meaning study of Chinese modal verb Yao,namely one-sided meaning interpretation and lack of meaning interpretation model.Consequently,based on the previous studies,this study explores the meaning of Chinese modal verb Yao in specific context from a grammar-pragmatics interaction perspective.The meaning of Chinese modal verb Yao is subject to both the choice of grammatical form and the role of inferential construal,which expresses pragmatic modality in specific context.From a grammar-pragmatics interaction perspective,this study analyzes the meaning of Chinese modal verb Yao,aims to attempt to solve the existing problems in the meaning study and provides a new perspective for the meaning study of Chinese modal verbs,which contributes to the meaning interpretation of other Chinese grammatical categories,injects new vitality into Chinese grammar study and has important guiding significance for language teaching.
