A Critical Study Of Contemporary Capital From The Perspective Of David Harvey's Space

The mode of production in the era of life determines that Marx’s criticism of the capital society at that time is mainly from the time dimension.However,with the gradual expansion of the influence of the industrial revolution,the rapid development of communication technology,and the fundamental change of the mode of production,only relying on the time dimension is not enough to fully analyze the capital society,and space is no longer only understood as a place for people’s activities.Capitalists began to make use of space for further capital accumulation,and Western Marxists gradually turned their attention to space dimension.Among them,the research on space production theory of French philosopher Henry Lefebvre had the most profound impact on Contemporary American Marxist David Harvey.Through the analysis of the reality of capital society,Harvey introduced the spatial dimension into Marx’s historical materialism,thus forming historical geographical materialism,and classified the contradictions in capital society according to this method: fundamental contradiction,changing contradiction and dangerous contradiction.Finally,Harvey’s theoretical achievements not only promote the research and development of Marxism,but also put forward valuable suggestions for the development of globalization and urbanization in the new normal of economic development in China.As a Marxist in the new era,Harvey closely adheres to the social reality,criticizes the capital society strongly,and finds the theoretical basis for the capital ship,which makes Marxism shine with the brilliance of the times.
