Greetings are the most commonly used in people's daily life.Decent greetings are conducive to maintaining good communication between people.The types of Chinese greetings are complex and diverse,and they change with the context,which is not easy for foreign students to grasp,and lead to a variety of pragmatic failures in the process of using greetings,even causing unnecessary embarrassment.Through the questionnaire,we summarized the pragmatic failures in the use of Chinese greetings by foreign students,analyzed the reasons,and made more targeted suggestions for the teaching of Chinese greetings.This article is roughly divided into five parts:The first part is an introduction.Firstly,it explains the reason for choosing the topic.Secondly,it proposes the research object and the main methods of the research.Finally,it summarizes the research results of greetings in the academic circle,including the ontology research of greetings,pragmatic research and teaching research.It expounds the significance and value of the research in this paper.The second part starts from the definition,classification and influencing factors of greetings.Based on previous studies on greetings,this chapter focuses on the classification of Chinese greetings.In terms of the use of greetings,this article divides greetings into two categories: online and offline;from the form of greetings,according to the theory put forward by Bi Jiwan's The Difference between Chinese and English Greetings,it is divided into verbal greetings and non-verbal greetings,which also provides theoretical basis for the following questionnaires.The third part is a survey of pragmatic failures in greetings of foreign students.Through the designed greeting questionnaire,we investigated the actual situation of foreign students using Chinese greetings,and then compared them with the Chinese students' pragmatics of Chinese greetings so that we found out the pragmatic failures of foreign students using greetings.The main reasons that cause foreign students' pragmatic failures are: the complexity of Chinese greetings,the interference of the native language system and culture of foreign students,the use of evasion strategies by foreign students in greetings,the tolerance of Chinese people,and the inadequacy of greetings teaching.The fourth part puts forward specific teaching suggestions for foreign students to learn Chinese greetings.Firstly,by discovering the shortcomings in the textbook Developing Spoken Chinese,some suggestions for writing Chinese textbooks are made from three aspects:the richness,authenticity and practicality of the greetings and the relevance of the after-schoolexercises;secondly,it propose some practical suggestions for the teaching of Chinese greetings: teachers should pay attention to the teaching of greetings and use appropriate teaching methods;finally,it puts forward solutions to the problems that foreign students need to pay attention to when learning Chinese.The fifth part is the conclusion,which summarizes the full text.It points out that although the questionnaire is not objective enough,it is beneficial to improve the teaching of greetings for foreign students.
