Qie mo(a general term used in traditional Chinese opera),as an integral part for the script creation and performance of traditional Chinese opera,is often seen in drama of the Yuan Dynasty,and it is widely used in the legends of the Ming Dynasty.The legend of the Ming Dynasty is best represented by the "Four Dreams of Linchuan",the success of which is closely connected with the ingenious design of Qie mo by its author,Tang Xianzu.How the structure is organized,how the important plot develops,and how the protagonists present themselves are all closely related to the application of Qie mo.The use of Qie mo in the "Four Dreams of Linchuan" texts is studied in this paper.Such research methods as text analysis and comparative research methods are adopted in this paper to analyze and explore the types and text meaning of Qie mo,so as to have an overall understanding of the use of it.The main content of this paper is divided into five parts:The reason why the author chose the topic is explained in the introduction part.Besides the reason of choosing the name of the research object as well as the research methods of thesis writing are also introduced.What's more,previous researches on Qie mo are summarized as well in the introduction section.The definition and word source of Qie mo is introduced in first chapter,and the technique of Qie mo involved in Tang Xianzu's drama works are also classified in first chapter.As most of the dramas are originated from the legendary novels of the Tang Dynasty or the vernacular novel of Ming Dynasty,Tang Xianzu's creative use of Qie mo can be explored through the comparative analysis of the important Qie mo.The artistic function of Qie mo in the creation of the "Four Dreams of Linchuan" is discussed in second chapter.Detailed analyses of the text meaning of Qie mo are conducted from four aspects,including narrative structure,character shaping,symbolic meaning and folk culture.The third chapter is to further explore that era significance of the use of Qie mo in the "Four Dreams of Linchuan" texts.The use of Qie mo in the legendary novels of the Ming Dynasty has already been patternizing,but the "Four Dreams of Linchuan" created by Tang Xianzu has not fallen into convention.The influence of Tang Xianzu's creative use of Qie mo on the dramatic works such as Women In Drawing,Dream Flowers is studied through a deep exploration of "female portrait".Finally,the main points and defects of this paper are summarized,and the classification of Qie mo is attached in the form of tables.
