The use of utensils for the burial of the dead is an important part of ancient Chinese burial customs.Burial utensils developed from scratch,from simple to complex,and formed a strict hierarchy.It is a unique way for the living to express their spiritual sustenance to the deceased by painting on the coffin with exquisite and allegorical decorations.This way of "sending feelings to things" also varies from place to place.It can show its unique charm at any time,in any space or in any place.The beautiful implication contained in the decorative patterns is the pursuit of the simple value for the common people.Today,with the rapid development of the society,in the countryside far away from the hustle and bustle of the city,a beautifully drawn coffin may not bring people fear,but a quiet and rational thinking of death,which is the most simple value embodiment of the society.Folk coffin painting art is an active sample of traditional culture.Because of the uniqueness of its social space and humanistic environment,as well as the particularity of folk artists' creation concept and their service objects,it has a unique charm different from other arts.Coffin painting art has formed a series of perfect and fixed paradigms in the long development process,which reflect the relationship between traditional folklore and modern life from one aspect.Based on the local folk customs and beliefs,this paper probes into the realistic value of the coffin painting in Jingtai area of Gansu Province,and makes an in-depth analysis of the source and implication of the coffin painting,so as to excavate the humanistic accomplishment and spiritual sustenance contained therein.Will be produced in the folk art form exposure to a specific space,in order to show its existence in today's society unique.
