A Follow-up Study On The Relationship Between Children's Online Game Addiction Tendency And Reactivity And Active Aggression

Internet addiction among adolescents has become a prominent mental health problem worldwide.Previous studies have found a high correlation between Internet game disorder and aggressive behavior,but the longitudinal relationship between the two has not been determined,especially the longitudinal relationship between Internet game disorder and reactive aggression and proactive aggression.This study intends to use longitudinal design to explore the longitudinal relationship between Internet game disorder tendency and children's reactive and proactive aggression,as well as the gender differences between Internet game disorder tendency and aggression.In this study,a total of 1180 students were selected from grade 2 to grade 5 of a primary school in Nankai District,Tianjin by cluster sampling method.We conducted two data collection in May 2019 and October 2019.Children's Internet game disorder tendency were also measured by the participants themselves filling out the IGDS-SF9.Children's reactive aggression and proactive aggression were also measured by the participants themselves filling out the “reaction-proactive aggression questionnaire”.The study uses the cross-lagged model to examine the longitudinal relationship between Internet game disorder tendency and aggression in children,especially the gender differences between Internet game disorder tendency and aggression.The results show that :(1)Internet game disorder tendency and children's aggression can predict each other and Internet game disorder tendency has a greater predictive power on aggression;(2)compared with proactive aggression,Internet game disorder tendency has a greater predictive power for reactive aggression;(3)the predictive power of boys' Internet game disorder tendency to aggression is greater than that of girls' Internet game disorder tendency to aggression;(4)Internet game disorder tendency has an effect on the proactive aggression of boys,but has no effect on the proactive aggression of girls.
