Ancient Chinese had a special comprehension on Rhyme,they developed it into an aesthetic category which means a kind of spiritual aesthetic perception.Factually,Rhyme is a key category which is qualified to represent Chinese traditional aesthetic consciousness and aesthetic culture,it expresses the aesthetic pursuit of traditional Chinese art.However,with the unique Metaphorical thinking mode,ancient Chinese did not have a clear definition of Rhyme,and this brings great trouble to modern scholars.Chinese traditional aesthetics is becoming edge words in the fashion of western aesthetics since the eastward transmission of western sciences,and what's worse is that humans today are facing serious aesthetic modernity crisis.Therefore,it's essential to discover and summarize the connotation of ancient Chinese Rhyme,and transform it into a modern version.This thesis comprises 5 parts,their main points are concluded as follows:Exordium: presenting the problem consciousness,research background,research target,research method and research significance of this thesis,and there is also a brief literature review.Chapter 1(The History of Rhyme): the author traces back to the development process of Rhyme category from Wei and Jin dynasties to late Qing dynasty;investigates 3 major theoretical leaps(from vocal Rhyme to personal Rhyme,poetic Rhyme and artistic Rhyme)in the development of Rhyme category,and summarizes 3 features including usage in preference to definition,developing with the blend of kindred categories,being usually regarded as some kind of aesthetic style.Chapter 2(The Metaphysical Connotation of Rhyme): the author analyzes the influences of Chinese traditional metaphysics(Confucius,Buddhism and Taoist)on ancient Chinese aesthetic perception and artistic creation;points out that Confucian aesthetic pursuit is pursuing benevolence,Buddhist aesthetic pursuit is comprehending emptiness,Taoist aesthetic pursuit is peripateticism.These aesthetic pursuits are organic parts of the connotation of Rhyme category,possess the characteristic of secular transcendence.The author points out that,the essential characteristic of Rhyme is identifying the ultimate value of one's own existence in observation of objects;Rhyme is not objective attribute,personal subjective feeling,or emotional happiness;Rhyme has a structure of aesthetic intention—consciousness,it's a kind of spiritual happiness which beyond sensory and material happiness.The aesthetic intention of Rhyme generated from Chinese traditional cultural accumulation and material practice.The aesthetic consciousness of Rhyme has 4 spiritual characterizations: sense of life,sense of spiritual freedom,sense of the unity of heaven and human,and sense of returning home.Chapter 3(How to Generate the Consciousness of Rhyme): the author summarizes the creation theory and appreciation theory of Rhyme,and reflects the way of treating objects in aesthetic intention—consciousness of Rhyme.If an artist wants to create Rhyme in his/her work,he/she must possess the aesthetic intention—consciousness of Rhyme,keep up a void—quietness mind,grasp the essence of objects in observing his/her living world,and have a good craftsmanship.The appreciator of Rhyme should also possess the aesthetic intention—consciousness of Rhyme and keep up a void—quietness mind,it would be better if the appreciator shares common experience with the artist.The appreciator of Rhyme is the broad masses of the people,there is no class nature or social distinction.Finally,the aesthetic intention—consciousness of Rhyme illustrates the way Chinese people treating objects in ancient times,which is integrity,respect,and love.Complimentary Part(Modernity Crisis of Aesthetic Appreciation & the Future of Rhyme): in the author's viewpoint,the secular transcendence of Chinese traditional aesthetic culture is different from the transcendence of western aesthetic culture which based on the ontology of binary opposition.With the development of human knowledge since industrial age,modern science and technology have painted a new world prospect for humans.Meanwhile,the mysterious and simple world prospect of old days has gone.However,modern science and technology lack the dimension of humanistic transcendence up to now,therefore humans are facing existential angst and aesthetic crisis.With the inspiration of Marx and Engels,the future ultimate value which based on modern science and technology shall hold this principle: realizing human freedom by practice of inner transcendence.Aesthetic intention—consciousness of Rhyme accords with this principle constitutionally,and it's capable to integrate with the world prospect of modern science and technology.Through the modern transformation of Rhyme,Chinese civilization could be more charming than ever.
