When it comes to Zhu Lian,most person will think of his Hong Lou Ping Meng,while his biography and other literary works are rarely mentioned.This paper will focus on Zhu Lian's family background,life experiences,friends-making and other literary works in order to explore the multiple colors of this township literatus.The first chapter investigates Zhu Lian's family background,life experiences and friends-making on the basis of existing historical materials.Zhu Lian came from a well-known family.Because of the influence of his family members,Zhu Lian had been interested in literature and art since he was very young.After his family fortunes declined,Zhu Lian experienced setbacks and suffered great pain.Zhu Lian's friends came from different classes,including lower-class literati such as the members of Taicen Poetry Club and famous scholars such as Wang Chang and Yuan Mei.The family background,life experiences and friends-making have an extremely important influence on Zhu Lian's literary creation.The research in this chapter provides background support for the research in the following two chapters.The second chapter has a study on Zhu Lian's poetry composition.The first part tells a brief introduction to the versions of Zhu Lian's poetry collection.The second part explores the main emotions revealed in his poems,which can be roughly divided into three categories: sorrow,resentment and sadness.The third part analyzes the main features of his poems.There were various schools of poetry in Qianlong and Jiaqing Era.Zhu Lian made great efforts to cater to the mainstream,so his poems reflect the commonness of the times.Zhu Lian was born in Songjiang.Influenced by the culture of his hometown,his poems also reflect the feature of regional culture.In addition,Zhu Lian made full use of his advantages and transplanted painting skills and novel writing techniques into poetry creation.Under the interweaving influence of multiple factors,Zhu Lian's poems present diversified characteristics.The last part discusses the poetic propositions of Zhu Lian.The understanding of Zhu Lian's poetic propositions is helpful to understand his poems.The third chapter focuses on Zhu Lian's sketchbooks,taking Ming Zhai Xiao Zhi as the main research object.The first section analyzes Zhu Lian's compilation intention.It can be summarized as three points: encouraging the good and punishing the evil,entertaining the public and making up for the lack of history.The second section discusses the features of the mythical stories in Ming Zhai Xiao Zhi.There are many different kinds of supernatural stories in this sketchbook,which reflects Zhu Lian's complicated religious views.The third section explores the strange stories in Ming Zhai Xiao Zhi.Zhu Lian cast his eyes on the wonders in real life.These wonders add the spirit of realism to the sketchbook.The fourth section analyzes the satirical art and narrative technique of Ming Zhai Xiao Zhi.The conclusion reveals the multiple colors of Zhu Lian from three aspects: time,region and individual.His works not only reflect the mainstream aesthetic trends of Qianlong and Jiaqing Era,but also glitter the regional cultural characteristics of Songjiang,and at the same time show his personal aesthetic tastes.The appendix briefly sorts out Zhu Lian's life events and presents them in the form of chronology.
