Previous research in decision-making area mainly focused on how individuals make immediate choices between alternatives, but ignored another common phenomenon ——choice deferral. In recent years, the research on choice deferral has attracted wide attention.Previous studies have explored the influencing factors of choice deferral from the perspective of cognitive, emotional and individual differences. In addition, some studies have shown that decision-making style,an individual difference feature, plays an important role in decision-making.However,there are few studies on the relationship between maximizing decision-making style and choice deferral. Therefore, this study focuses on the relationship between maximizing, satisficing decision-making style and choice deferral, and examines the influence of decision-making style on choice deferral and its mechanism from the perspectives of outcome orientation and process tracking. In addition, this paper explores whether the influence of maximizing, satisficing decision-making style on choice deferral will be moderated by involvement from the perspective of trait context interaction. This paper consists of three studies. The first study completed the revision of the Maximization Scale,so as to make it more in line with the cultural background of China.Based on the result analysis orientation, study 2 explored the influence of maximizing, satisficing decision styles on choice deferral under different involvement situation. The results showed that individuals with maximizing decision-making style were more likely to delay than those with satisficing decision-making style;subjects under high involvement were more likely to delay;the interaction between decision style and involvement was not significant. On the basis of study 2,the Information Display Board technology was used in study 3 to track the information processing mode of individuals with different decision-making styles,so as to further reveal the influence mechanism of decision-making styles on choice deferral. The results showed that there were some differences in the way of information processing and decision-making difficulty experienced by individuals with different decision-making styles.Specifically, compared with the individuals with satisficing decision-making style, the information processing method used by the individuals with maximizing decision-making style was more comprehensive, which showed longerdecision-making time, more in-depth information search and more option-based search mode.At the same time, they experienced greater difficulty in decision-making.Further mediation analysis showed that the search depth and decision-making difficulty played the role of chain mediation in the relationship between decision-making style and choice deferral.Combined with these experimental results,we conclude that: compared with individuals with satisficing decision-making style, individuals with maximizing decision-making style are more likely to delay their choice, and this difference is stable in different involvement situations. This phenomenon may be partly explained by the information processing methods used by individuals with different decision-making styles in the decision-making process and the difficulty they experience in making decisions.
