When the new wave of film swept over Europe, the Japanese film industry also received a huge impact. The Japanese New Wave, which was born in the middle of the 1950 s and developed to the end of the 1960 s,became a great revolutionary movement in the Japanese film industry.New Wave filmmakers abandoned the expressions of critical realism and traditional romanticism in Japanese films from the 1950s and before. The young Japanese directors of the New Wave rise to rebel against elder masters such as Yasujir? Ozu,Akira Kurosawa and Keisuke Kinoshita, they denying the "film world" constructed by the pre-war masters, criticizing their outdated style and conservative ideas about the Film creative and product,In a serious sense of social responsibility to focus on political and social events, thus in the works with the mainstream film presents a completely different aesthetic and value orientation. They added a serious sense of social responsibility and political overtones to the intense and sharp film techniques. At the same time,in terms of the ideological expression of the work,it absorbed the connotation and value of the existentialist philosophical ideas, combined them with social reality, and adopted modernist expression techniques to innovate and subvert the traditional Japanese morality and values. In the Japanese New Wave, the emphasis on individual expression was centered on human beings and attention was paid to the living environment of human beings. They counterposed social existence and individual actual existence, advocated respect for human personality and freedom, accorded with the philosophy of existentialism that regarded human existence as the only real existence, and explored the value of human existence.Such a theoretical core satisfied people's value needs in the context of Japan's chaotic society.Based on the overall discussion and study of the New Wave in Japan, this paper focuses on the individual survival in the new wave movies.By taking the philosophy of existentialism as the guiding ideology,it pays attention to the living situation and survival state of individuals and explored the survival value and needs of individuals in the new wave movies. At the same time, through a brief interpretation of the aesthetic style of the Japanese New Wave film movement from the aspects of visual, narrative and theme expressions, and reference to the Japanese films before the movement, this paper offers some insights into the innovation of the new wave films.
