Jump cut was mostly employed in the experimental film editing,and then got noticed in the New Wave movement.This thesis discusses jump cut from four parts.First part is to analyze the performance of jump cut in the history of French and global films.The reason why jump cut could be noticed is that the New Wave movement has a worldwide influence.And the filmmakers of New Wave adopted jump cut in the whole narrative structure,which was totally different compared to others.Second part is about the philosophy ideological trend of postwar France and jump cut's discontinuity,occasionality and relationship with the existence of film material.From that we can say that jump cut is similar to the long shot in terms of aesthetic thoughts behind them.The third part is to make a comprehensive understanding about jump cut's discontinuity and reflection of time and space depends on the analyzation of specific films.Finally,the thesis adopts the theoretical frame of David Bordwell's cognition of film theory to analyze the change of modern audiences' perception from three parts.The acceptance with jump cut is due to the development of visual perception and the mental needs for breaking the gestalt.And also because audiences can gradually breed some watching habits which benefit for the blossom of jump cut in the atmosphere of modern culture.The final partWith the progress of modern film,Chinese film makers also realize the performance of jump cut little by little and consciously adopt this editing in their film-making,but sometimes the exceeding or unsuitable use of jump cut would hurt the quality of the whole movie,which is another point concluded from the analyzation of jump cut.The thesis aims at providing some revelation for relevant works and film-making in the future.
