The new curriculum reform emphasizes that evaluation should play a role in promoting students' development.Speaking of our problems in writing evaluation that we overly use quantitative evaluation,largely focus on knowledge rather than learning ability.By contrast,the SOLO(Structure of the Observed Learning Outcome)Taxonomy,which focuses on evaluating and improving students' thinking ability.This dissertation is based on the SOLO Taxonomy to come up with a complete plan of English writing evaluation design,giving suggestions to solve the problems about English writing evaluation in China,furthermore improving students' writing skills.This dissertation mainly introduced the background,significance,research methods of this research and defined the relevant concepts in chapter 1.In chapter 2,this paper analyzed the literature about the SOLO Taxonomy.After this,the author sorted,concluded and stated the literature of English writing evaluation and English writing teaching.In chapter 3,the author expounded the SOLO Taxonomy,and illustrated the feasibility of applying the SOLO Taxonomy to the English writing evaluation,which played an important role in English writing evaluation plan design.In chapter 4,the author made an English writing evaluation plan of junior high school based on the new National English Curriculum Standards and the SOLO Taxonomy.In chapter 5,the author applied the English writing evaluation plan in Grade 8students and made a case study.The research showed that the English writing evaluation plan could detect students' writing level accurately.There are several deficiencies in the evaluation plan when using it,so the author made adjustments.Besides that,the author further put forward some suggestions to improve English writing teaching,such as helping students to establish appropriate writing stage goals,trying stratified teaching method,and integrating listening,speaking,reading and writing to develop students' writing ability and so on.
