Human beings want to express ideas,interchange information and transmit emotions,so language came into place.Therefore,language becomes a carrier and tool with which people communicate and think.The world is full of wonders.There are numerous wonderful language phenomena,and idioms are one of them.The study of idioms attracts many experts both at home and abroad by virtue of their special structure and form.Idioms embody features of language,and they also reflect different nations' culture.Hence,learning to use idioms can become a powerful symbol that test one's ability to master a language.Researchers have found that many usages of idioms are usually metaphorical.Metaphor is a very important term in rhetoric.Experts both at home and aboard have conducted different levels of studies on it.In fact,metaphor is also an important way of thinking,and now there are many experts who take metaphor into a cognitive pattern and start to explore it.Man is the measure of everything.Human beings first know themselves and then know the world around.Body metaphor,as an example of one kind of the metaphors,is a universal language phenomenon.Therefore,it also follows that people make use of something familiar like body organs and parts of the body to make comparison and hence understand things better.Additionally,it is it is precisely because of the existence of this comparability,things in the world can be closely related to each other.This article,based on the conceptual metaphor theory and conceptual integration theory,aims to explore and summarize the original meaning and metaphorical meaning of body idioms both in English and Chinese,which are chosen from the authoritative reference books as the basic corpus from the perspective of cognitive linguistic,and aims to find the similarities and differences in the process of meaning conduction.In this way,it can be a useful tool to help people learn and use body idioms and to know exactly the cultures of different countries and nations...
