According to the New English Curriculum standard for General Senior High Schools(2017),it can be seen that the grammar teaching is an important and necessary component of foreign language teaching.The comprehensive use of language competence is the goal of foreign language teaching.Grammar and pragmatic competence are the basis and key factors of students' communicative competence.The cultivation of grammar ability depends on grammar teaching.Therefore,whether from the teaching goals of the New English Curriculum standard for General Senior High Schools(2017)or from the functions and aims of the grammar teaching,importance is attached to grammar teaching in foreign language teaching.There are still a lot of issues about grammar teaching that need to be made clear,and many arguments need to be answered,and many difficulties need to be solved.This study takes the teaching of English grammar in high school in a middle school in Wanzhou District as the research object,and uses the English grammar class as the basis.Data are collected and analyzed using questionnaires,classroom observations and interviews.The current status of English grammar teaching in high schools is explored:Exploring the problems and causes of English grammar teaching in high school,and putting forward suggestions for English grammar teaching in high school.Firstly,330 students of senior high schools from one middle school in Wanzhou District are randomly selected as research objects to conduct questionnaire survey,and then,effective questionnaire data are statistically analyzed with SPSS25 and WPS.Secondly,six English teachers were selected for interviews in the first,second,and third grades respectively,and interviewed to understand the current status of high school English grammar teaching and related issues left by the student questionnaires.Then,by observing and recordng the grammar classes of the six teachers,the author gets more real and effective data.The research focuses on the following two questions: 1)What is the status of English grammar teaching in high school? 2)How to change the status of English grammar class in high school?Through data collation and analysis,the author finds that there are still many problems in the current high school English grammar teaching.High school students still pay more attention to the study of English grammar,but they generally think that English grammar classes are boring.They hope that teachers will further improve their teaching methods and enhance the fun of grammar classes.Some teachers have weakened the teaching of grammar.In actual grammar teaching,they use more to directly present grammar knowledge points,and then explain and drill a lot.They think that it is difficult to change the current status at present,and they can only continue teaching according to previous teaching methods.The author proposes improvement measures based on the curriculum standards,theoretical foundations and teaching principles for the problems found in the investigation and the reasons for these problems,for the reference of the majority of high school English teachers.The improvement measures of grammar teaching are as follows: first,students learn to learn grammars in context and learn to train their abilities of creating English situations in life.Second,teachers must attach importance to the practical principles of grammar teaching,connect with students' actual lives,and create a true context.Also,they should constantly update their knowledge systems and adopt flexible and changeable grammar teaching methods.Based on the research findings above,teachers can pay more attention to the role of improving students' English proficiency from the perspective of grammar use and improve their grammar teaching so that students can comprehensively cultivate all aspects of abilities besides the exams,and comprehensively develop all aspects of ability on the basis of coping with the examination.
