A Study Of Animal Illustrations In Olaus' Nautical Charts

As one of the most wonderful maps of the Renaissance,Olaus " Carta Marina " has high artistic value and reference significance.The visual form of the illustrations in the map includes the self-disciplined form and other regulated forms.Other laws can be attributed to the performance of objective geographic things,while self-discipline is more reflected in the subject’s will.The " Carta Marina " expresses the main will of the creator to the utmost extent.Although the map is not detailed from a geographical perspective,it is the first detailed map of the Nordic countries.This article adopts the method of literature search and comparative research,and carefully analyzes the scientific and decorative form of the map in Olaus " Carta Marina ".At the beginning of the thesis,the definitions of maps and illustrations are briefly summarized,as well as the current research status at home and abroad.The second chapter mainly analyzes the visual and cultural contents of animal illustrations in Olaus " Carta Marina " through classification research methods,and summarizes the characteristics of European map creation in the 16 th century.Chapter Three compares the comparison between Olaus " Carta Marina " and related maps in later stages.According to the same period and different creators’ descriptions of Nordic maps and their creative intentions,the colors,lines,and drawing styles of the illustrations are compared.Research methods to analyze commonalities and differences between related maps.The fourth chapter summarizes the drawing characteristics of the illustrations in Olaus " Carta Marina ",and analyzes the influence of the maps on modern illustration maps.At this time,popular maps have recorded a lot of content about religion,customs and cultural beliefs.The drawing of these illustrations has greatly inspired the illustration design in modern maps.Modern maps are highly scientific and systematic,but their artistic parts are more singular.The depiction of objective geographical features of Nanjing maps is very common in modern illustration map design,but there is less content to express the creator’s main will.The practical part of the thesis provides a reference and reference for the artistic and decorative features of modern illustration map design through the study and summary of the drawing characteristics of such map illustrations.Modern illustration and map design began to pay more and more attention to the artistic value of maps.As a famous ancient city with a long history and culture,Nanjing has a large amount of folk cultural content.These resources can become important materials for map illustration design.Based on this,this article takes the Nanjing folk culture map as an example to carry out design practice.Through the pursuit of map art and science,it explores more cultural maps with local characteristics and emotions.
