Sri Lanka is located in the southern tip of the Asian continent and separated from India only by a Pok Strait.Sri Lanka was popular with Buddhist culture in the ancient.Sri Lanka has been praised as 'the pearl of the Indian Ocean' by its splendid religious civilization and rich natural resources.Sri Lanka has lived with many ethnic groups since ancient.The most important is the Sinhalese which accounts for about 70%of the population of Sri Lanka and the Tamils which makes up about 20%population of Sri Lanka.The Sinhala people in Sri Lanka are the original inhabitants of the island and believe in Buddhism that belongs to the category of Theravada has spread from India.Sri Lankan tamil earliest immigrants from tamil in southeastern India and they are Hindus.The differences in religious beliefs have led to the continuous fighting and clashes between the two communities.In particular,the clashes between the two communities in modern times have gradually risen to the bloody violence.The contradictions between the ethnic groups and political parties brought about by the different religions.This paper,starting with the status of ethnic and religious problems in Sri Lanka,observed the history of Sri Lanka's ethnic conflict from ancient times to the present.The history of Sri Lanka is divided into ancient,modern and nowadays and the change of Sri Lanka religious conflict is summed up in the perspective of historical development The ancient Sri Lanka ethnic conflict is mainly in order to compete for natural resources and later as a result of colonial activities has brought the new religion and thought to Sri Lanka,the impact of the Sri Lanka original caste system and social structure,and then the British to Sri Lanka brought three powers to philosophy religious conflict in Sri Lanka intensified it's purpose and appeal to the pursuit of economic status.The constitutional reform in 1972 aggravated the conflict in Sri Lanka,and the Sri Lanka religious conflict was gradually turning to the contention of political power.In the current constitution,the regulation of religious freedom in Sri Lanka alleviated the tension of religious conflict to a certain extent,but there still existed some incompatible with modern international mainstream thoughts.The study of Sri Lanka's domestic national contradictions is generally based on the perspective of politics and sociology and there is no in-depth study of Sri Lanka's special religious laws and regulations.This paper enumerate two family disputes in Sri Lanka,analysis of the changes of the two families struggle,summarize the religious issues in ethnic conflicts in Sri Lanka brought from the historical process of development.From the perspective of law,through from ancient times to the modern colonial activities to contemporary Sri Lanka on religious freedom in the constitution interpretation formulation and the contemporary constitution of Sri Lanka and religious conflict,policies,and regulations on religious freedom in Sri Lanka in current constitution analysis.We affirm the progress in the protection of religious freedom in the current constitution,but at the same time analyze the shortcomings in the constitution.According to the constitution of Sri Lanka religious status equality,religious freedom is the lack of constitutional governance norms put forward specific solutions,the separation of politics and religion taught the principles of equality,independent office in the constitution.
