Historically, the Manchus,as the ruling group of the Qing Dynasty, certain aristocratic privilege under the organizational structure of the Eight Banner System.Their ethnic boundaries were almost identical to the boundaries of social hierarchy. This is a special ethnic boundary under the leadership of the imperial regime, that is,"The gap of banner and people." In the 20th century, with the destruction of the Qing Dynasty, the Manchu privilege that was maintained by the Eight Banners system disappeared.Under the social pressure of the nationalist revolution, many Manchus were forced to hide their names, and the Manchu population group seemed to disappear in Chinese society overnight. The reason is that they lost their own cultural characteristics in the long-term intertwined life with the Han nationality, and is also a social consequence of the modern nationalist revolution represented by Sun Yat-sen.Therefore,the plight of contemporary research on the Manchu is that although it is a nation recognized by the state,we cannot find the cultural particularity of the Manchu. Therefore, when studying the Manchu,we could not explain the Manchu along the traditional ethnic study path. This article is based on the theme "Manchu found in social emotions"and tries to explore the social existence of Manchu in terms of social cognition.Even if it loses all cultural features, why do we still find it today in some social contexts, even a strong manifestation. The most vivid example is the "Manchu Language Revival Movement" that now appears in society. Therefore, this thesis starts with the "Manchu Language Revival Movement"and tries to discuss the essence of the "Manchu Language Revival Movement".This study believes that the Manchu language revival is the search for ethnic emotions and spiritual comforts. It can be said that people who study Manchu language don't expect to use Manchu to communicate, but in their concept, the process of studying Manchu language is more important than learning Manchu language. In fact,I discovered in the survey that people who study Manchu language are not all Manchu. It shows a certain temperament of cultural movements. However,in my research,I discovered that the movement did not spread to the countryside, and it was more of a pursuit of the young people who were scattered in the urban areas. In rural society, the image of the Manchu in the concept of people is much less, but this does not mean that the Manchu identity has completely disappeared in the rural society. The Manchu identity in rural society can actually be directly reflected in two dimensions. One dimension is based on social emotions:In the consciousness of the villagers, the Northeast is the hometown of the Manchu people.People generally pay respects to the historical experience and historical performance of the Manchu, and it became a kind of"commonsense-like social emotion" that was what Geertz called. On the other hand,it was embodied in the institutional level:Based on the country's ethnic policy, the community I surveyed was a minority township and a Manchu Korean nationality township. The symbolic use of the Manchu culture by the local government not only includes the behavioral choices of the inertia of the state system, but also strengthens the awareness of the Manchus and the self-identity of the Manchus.By describing the Manchu revival movement,Manchu mirroring in rural life, and the formal use of Manchu symbols in ethnic policy practice, the conclusion of this study is that Manchu is not a traditional ethnic group with clear ethnicity and significant cultural characteristics, but it is not like as many people think, the Manchus have already "disappeared." As a matter of fact, the Manchu people have always remained in the concept of people in Northeast China as a kind of social emotion at different levels. This kind of social sentiment manifests itself as a type of social consensus that is what Geertz calls "common sense." The achievement of this consensus means that the Manchus have not disappeared in terms of social awareness and social emotion, although in a more realistic cognitive structure,it is difficult to outline the Manchu cultural characteristics and ethnic boundaries. However,it cannot be denied that,in the subconscious of the residents who live on a considerable scale in the northeast, there is a seemingly unconscious awareness of the Manchus that can be perceived by the researchers. Therefore,to rediscover the Manchu from this social emotion,we can understand the practical significance of this symbol in the present China.
