"Children Of The Great Leap Forward": Research On The Design And Construction Of The Great Hall Of The People

In 1958,in order to celebrate the 10 th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China,in conjunction with the transformation and construction of the capital,the CPC Central Committee decided to build the Great Hall of the People and other National Day projects in Beijing.At the design stage,national architects gathered in Beijing to break the convention and conduct collaborative creative competitions.Around the Great Hall of the people's architectural plans and architectural styles,experts debated.In order to ensure the construction period,Zhou Enlai proposed the principle of "everything from ancient to modern,Chinese and foreign countries,and the best for my own use." The previously-accepted "old" and "western" design theories and design styles must eventually be adopted.In terms of material supply,the Great Hall of the People has acquired the privilege of material projects by virtue of its "Marshal Engineering" status.However,some places had not always been positive,and even " if the center does not arrange,the place will not respond." The National Day Engineering Office dispatched a working group to the relevant provinces to coordinate the processing and ordering of all parties;the State Planning Commission came forward to coordinate the supply of materials throughout the country.However,at the same time as the materials are secured,the cadres and construction workers focus on the progress and quality of the project.The phenomenon of wasting and embezzlement of materials was inevitably inflected.Therefore,on the one hand,the engineering party improved the material and financial management system,on the other hand,it urged the masses to launch sounding and strengthen the material clearance and recovery.During the construction process,there were initially problems such as low personnel,low efficiency,and attention to progress and neglect of quality.The engineering party has adjusted its organizational structure,implemented the system of unified leadership and segmentation,and improved organizational management.At the same time,drawing on the practice of the masses at that time,the masses were mobilized to carry out soundings,technological innovations,and construction competitions;the military operational ideology of the revolutionary era was also applied to buildings,“focusing on superior forces,focusing on surprise strikes,” and fighting with large regiments;Focus on ideological and political work,set a typical model,and recruit advanced elements into the party.These measures have mobilized the enthusiasm of “human” to the greatest extent and ensured that the Great Hall of the People will be completed on time and in accordance with the quality.
