The Ryukyu Kingdom was founded in 1429 and has existed as one of Chinese tributaries for a long time since the Hong Wu period of the Ming Dynasty.Since 1609,Satsuma has invaded the Ryukyu Kingdom repeatedly. After the Meiji Restoration,Japan's ambitions of expansion expanded.First, the Ryukyu State was taken as a vassal state of Japan.Later,Japan abolished the Ryukyu vassal state and annex it as a part of Kagoshima.By this way,the Ryukyu Kingdom which has existed for more than two hundred years was annexed by Japan absolutely.Although Ryukyu was annexed by Japan but Japan did not treat Okinawa people kindly.Okinawa was used as a military base to supply Japan's aggressive war. After World War II,Okinawa became the trust territory of the United Nations.Later,Okinawa was managed by the United States and became one part of the US pacific chain. In 1972,the United States "returned" administrative right of Okinawa to Japan on condition that the indefinite use of the military bases in Okinawa. The military bases on the Okinawa Island not only seriously damaged the lives and property of the Okinwa people, but also caused pollution of the living environment of the Okinawa residents. However,in order to maintain the Japan-US alliance, the Japanese government turned a blind eye to the interests of the Okinawa people. After being annexed by Japan, the Okinawa people have not stopped the re-independence movement. In order to live a free life, the Okinawa people have experienced three stages of independent movement: The independence movement before World War II,during the period of being managed by America, from the1972 to the present.Although the Okinawa Independence Movement has not stopped, most people on the island are not optimistic about the Okinawa independence movement. The dependence on the Japanese government's economic assistance and the military bases makes it difficult for the economy to be independent. And most of the Okinawa residents simply want to use the Ryukyu independence movement to resist the Japanese government's inappropriate policy on Okinawa. If we want to truly solve the problem of Okinawa independence,we should start with the Japanese government.
