The South China Sea issue began firstly in the 1970 s.Since the emergence of the South China Sea issue,Australia's position on the South China Sea issue has mainly experienced three periods, namely the first period of “sit on the fence”,the second period of “prudent intervention” and the third period of “active intervention”.This paper first discusses the performance and characteristics of each period of Australia's position on the South China Sea issue. In the meanwhile,it discusses the influence of the U.S.on the evolution process and holds that U.S.is the most important external factor that triggers the evolution of Australia's position on the South China Sea issue. Then, this paper analyzes the possible reasons for limiting the effect of the U.S.,which are done mainly from three perspectives, the United States itself,China and Australia.Based on Australia's own interests and the influence of the U.S.,this paper predicts the future development trend of Australia's position on the South China Sea issue. Finally, given all points stated above, this paper puts forward several countermeasures for China from various aspects.
