As a dark horse in 2016,Trump won the election with his outstanding performance on social media and continued his "Twitter administration" after taking office, sparking heated public discussions on the media. In fact, since the Obama election in 2008,the Internet has gradually emerged in the US elections. In 2016,the development of their respective media platforms was more mature, and the scope of users continued to expand, with their influence gradually increasing.Candidates for the two major political parties have also actively incorporated their own media into their campaign strategies, launching a tug of war on social media. But behind the lively appearance,it is the self?media that has subverted the traditional mode of information dissemination, which has profoundly affected the political participation of the American people.Unlike previous media such as print media and broadcasting, compared with the media,it has a lower threshold, faster speed and more convenient communication and feedback channels, and has gathered a large number of ordinary people. On the one hand,as the birthplace of the Internet, the United States has the largest number of self?media servers in the world. From blue?collar workers to political leaders have their own accounts, which provides a basis for change. On the other hand, with the development of globalization, the relocation of industries and the loss of jobs have exacerbated the imbalance of the middle class.Differences between the elite and the masses,Democrats and Republicans have increased, and social conflicts have accelerated. This has led to an urgent need for a breakthrough in social sentiment, and the two have jointly established the increasingly important position of the media in elections. The interaction between the media at any time and anywhere has brought closer the “virtual distance” between voters and leaders, which has improved their political effectiveness. Its unique filter bubbles and optimization algorithms have narrowed the channels for voters to obtain information, forming an “information cocoon room” to promote views.Polarization;mainstream media under economic pressure is also deviating from entertainment, and the function of objective guidance is weakened—self?media has made the political participation of American voters more polarized, and they have received an unprecedented right to speak, but as a result More prone to incitement. In order to win votes, political parties will naturally adjust their campaign strategies in due course. In the 2016 election, candidates from both parties actively promoted on social media, shaping different positions and images, and gaining public favor. However, the campaign strategies of the two are not exactly the same, and their mastery of self?media functions and speech are also different, and the results achieved in the end are also very similar. But what is certain is that the focus of the election has also changed since the advent of the media, and the popularity has become an important factor.
