After the end of the Cold War,with the end of the bipolar system,the internal contradictions and conflicts that the African continent was once covered by the hegemony of the powers continued to emerge,and the security situation in Africa has undergone new changes.Therefore,in order to find an effective solution to African security problems,the UN has cooperated with the African Union to build peacekeeping partnership.Based on the common goal of maintaining peace and security in Africa,in the1990 s,the UN began a useful exploration of cooperation peacekeeping with the Organization of African Unity.Although the failure of the peacekeeping in Rwanda shows the huge flaws in the OAU's own mechanism and has caused a heavy blow to the UN peacekeeping,the previous experience have laid the foundation for the cooperation between the UN and the AU.After the establishment of the AU,AU peace and security council was established,and the UN and the AU also continued to cooperate in the field of peacekeeping.The two sides gradually formed a flexible and diverse peacekeeping partnership.However,issues such as differences in capabilities and needs,insufficient attention to the AU's position,frictions between regional and sub-regional arrangements,and conflicts between conflict intervention and the principle of sovereignty,also pose significant challenges for the partnerships.This article focuses on the establishment of the UN-AU peacekeeping partnership.Introduced the background of the rise of the partnership,analyzed the peacekeeping operation in Liberia,Rwanda and Darfur,sorted out the construction process of the partnership and the characteristics of each stage,and also analyzed a some challenges facing the partnership,then discussed new progress and emphasis of partnership construction.
