This study aims at exploring the status of academic emotion and emotion regulation within middle school students as well as the interrelations between academic emotion,emotion regulation and academic achievement and the mediating role of emotion regulation in explaining the effect of academic emotion on academic achievement.The following findings was based on an investigation of 750 middle school students from Panyu District,Guangzhou city:Firstly,the middle school students experience a great number of negative and positive academic emotions and they tend to use cognitive reappraisal strategy.Secondly,there is a highly correlation among the middle school students' emotion regulation and academic emotion and academic achievement.There is a positive and significant correlation among positive-high arousal and positive-low arousal academic emotion while there is only significant correlation among negative-high arousal,negative-low arousal academic emotion and academic achievement with expressive suppression strategy not correlating with academic achievement but negative-high arousal.Thirdly,the middle school students' academic emotion can serve as a predictor for academic achievement in its dimensions of positive-high arousal,positive-low arousal and negative-low arousal while the cognitive reappraisal also can serve as a predictor for academic achievement.Lastly,cognitive reappraisal strategy play a mediating role in the effect of academic emotion on academic achievement,but only does in its dimensions of positive-high arousal,positive-low arousal and negative-low arousal with the exception of negative-high arousal.According to the norm of rational emotive education,this thesis construct a study toward two class of students in middle school on the form of group counseling on the purse of increase the use of cognitive reappraisal,positive academic emotion and academic achievement.As the result shows,this group counseling does make the use of cognitive reappraisal,positive academic emotion and academic achievement increase respectively,which provide some practical foundation for the academic emotion regulation study and emotional education.
