Virtual reality technology is widely used in the field of special education,mainly for children with intellectual disability and autism to intervene in teaching.Related research at home and abroad has confirmed that virtual reality technology as an assistant teaching method for children with intellectual disability and autism is effective.The promulgation of the Compulsory Education Curriculum Standards for Schools for Mentally Intellectual Education(2016 edition)has provided evidence for the implementation of life adaptation curriculum.However,due to the lack of unified textbooks,the variety of subjects and the open and flexible way of practice,and the great differences among students in Schools for Mentally Intellectual Education,many problems have arisen in the implementation of life adaptation curriculum:some well-intentioned and well-designed courses can't be implemented in practice because they are confined to the classroom;some life adaptation courses can't achieve their mastery goals due to lack of repeated training in the implementation process;and some life adaptation courses are dangerous,so in actual teaching,life adaptation teachers do not teach such subject courses.In order to solve this kind of problem,drawing on the relevant experience at home and abroad,we explore a teaching method of applying virtual reality to the life adaptation course in Schools for Mentally Intellectual Education.This research is based on the teaching dilemma of life adaptation course.It makes a deep research on the teaching of life adaptation course in seven Schools for Mentally Intellectual Education by using the methods of literature,interviewing and participatory observation.Through reading a large number of literature at home and abroad,we learned about the relevant research of applying VR to special children.We interviewed 32 Teachers of life adaptation in 6 schools for mentally intellectual education and learned about the current situation of the implementation of life adaptation curriculum and the teachers' design ideas of life adaptation curriculum based on VR.We also handed over the design contents of life adaptation curriculum based on VR to a total of 54 experts in special education,curriculum and virtual reality technology to review and complete the final VR life adaptation curriculum design.It is concluded that:Firstly,the teaching themes of life adaptation in low,middle and high grades of Schools for Mentally Intellectual Education mainly include self-awareness,personal hygiene,personal safety,knowledge of relatives and friends,knowledge of surroundings,routine education.Through in-depth interviews,the author understands the difficult teaching themes in life adaptation teaching and the coping styles(PPT teaching,parental assistance,situational classrooms or no practice exercises)and summarizes the top ten life adaptation teaching difficulties(shopping,crossing the street,taking public transportation,medical treatment,anti-loss education,occupation,safe use of electrical appliances,emergency rescue,human emotional recognition,adolescent education).Secondly,the teaching content and practice of life adaptation course deviate from the teachers' teaching idea.It is difficult to implement life adaptation course.Besides the objective factors such as curriculum itself,there are also many unexpected factors.Thirdly,this study identifies six major life adaptation themes for design and development(recognizing human facial expressions,crossing the road,how to do when lost,shopping,taking public transport,job interview),and sets curriculum objectives,design principles,specific contents,teaching evaluation and other aspects of virtual reality life adaptation.Considering the characteristics of virtual reality,some suggestions and matters needing attention are put forward.The curriculum of life adaptation in Schools for Mentally Intellectual Education based on VR has been reviewed by experts,and revised by researchers.It is scientific,interesting and operable.It solves the teaching problems of life adaptation teachers and provides a safe,reliable and effective practice channel for students.
