Since "the ordinary high school mathematics standards(the edition of 2017)" has issued by the ministry of education, and the six core mathematics literacy have been put forward, mathematical modeling,as one of them, has attracted extensive attention from mathematics educators. But,at present the promotion time of the new curriculum standard is short, and the new textbooks is not yet out.Meanwhile, due to the valuable time in high school class, the teachers and students have great pressure, which leading to its emphasis on mathematical modeling needs to be improved. However,as one of the six core contents, mathematical modeling is also two core concepts of American high school mathematics. The COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS of Mathematics(CCSSM)permeates modeling thinking into all the main mathematics content, systematically helping students master the thinking and methods of modeling. In addition,in terms of competition,China's high school mathematical modeling competition started late, developed slowly, and has a small popularization range. In the United States, there are specialized organizations and competition models with a large number of participants and a wide range. Therefore,on the basis of learning from the teaching of mathematical modeling in American high schools, this paper takes guangzhou high school students as an example to understand the current situation of their mathematical modeling ability through investigation and analysis of their solution process.According to the students' situation and the results of the practical research which was conducted, the American original teaching design was coducted. And then, some students were interviewed. After reflection, the improved teaching design was proposed. And some teaching suggestions of high school mathematical modeling were obtained. This paper consists of seven parts. The first part mainly introduces the general situation of mathematical modeling teaching in Chinese and American high schools, expounds the research problems, defines the core concepts, and explains the purpose, the significance, the research methods, the research ideas and the innovations. The second part is literature review. For the research questions, domestic and foreignliterature retrieval and review are conducted from the aspects of rational thinking, teaching practice, comparative study, and division of mathematical modeling ability level. The third part is the theoretical basis, including the problem-driven teaching theory,Dewey's pragmatic education theory,Scaffolding Instruction and the “RMI” method. The fourth part is comparative study."Borrowing" the teaching of mathematical modeling in American high schools.By comparing the curriculum standards, textbooks, competitions and student solution processes of Chinese and American high schools, this part analyzes what can be used for reference in the teaching of mathematical modeling in American high schools. The fifth part is the diagnosis of the high school mathematical modeling teaching in our country. On the basis of "borrow" the high school mathematics modeling teaching in the fourth part, the questionnaires was conducted, including the selection of the test object and time, the design of the test, the implementation of the test, mathematical coding standard, the analysis of test results and the conclusion. The sixth part is the practical research, which completes the corresponding teaching design according to the conclusion of the investigation and analysis and the learning situation, and interviews the students after the implementation, records the students' reflection, and then improve the teaching design. The seventh part is the summary and the forecast, which includes the conclusions of this study and points out the insufficiency of this article as well as the further forecast.
