Traditional classroom models and teaching methods are too concerned about the results of learners' knowledge acquisition and ignore dynamic factors such as the process of knowledge acquisition.STEAM education,originated in the United States,is a new interdisciplinary comprehensive education model integrating science,technology,engineer,mathematics and arts.STEAM education focuses on the integration and application of interdisciplinary knowledge,advocates the use of inter-disciplinary linkages to solve problems,it aims to cultivate students' innovative awareness and practical ability.This research reviews the development history of STEAM education and the research status at home and abroad.The STEAM education cognition level of front-line chemistry teachers was investigated through questionnaires.The survey results show that although the front-line teachers do not have a high level of theoretical cognition of STEAM education,they carried out teaching practices as their capacity allows.One of the bottlenecks in STEAM's development is the shortage of curriculum resources closely related to subject teaching.Based on the analysis of the course theme,course objective,activity supports,organization form and course evaluation,combining the characteristics of STEAM education,this study constructed STEAM course model.The STEAM course "Water in Life" was designed and developed.The course contains four topics and fourteen teaching links,involving various elements such as chemical science,technological process,mathematical modeling,humanities and arts;and disciplines such as chemistry,physics,biology,history and others.This study also carried out an eight-hour teaching practice in a senior high school in Tianjin to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the curriculum model.With the deepening of the curriculum concept,the combination of STEAM education and discipline is in the ascendant.It needs not only the strong support of education administration and schools,but also the active participation of more teachers.
