After the new curriculum standards were issued, the new textbooks have also been revised.Textbooks are an important basis for teaching, and textbook difficulty is an important indicator of the quality of textbooks. This article uses the quantitative research method, taking the Geography Ⅱ by Shandong Education Press as an example to study the difficulty of the new and old textbooks. With a view to providing reference and guidance for future textbook writing and high school geography teachers to accurately grasp the difficulty of textbooks and effectively use textbooks.Based on the above research goals, this thesis is divided into two parts:The first is to use a static quantitative analysis method to construct a geography textbook difficulty evaluation model.According to the structure of the geography textbook of Shandong Education Press, the textbook difficulty is divided into three dimensions: knowledge content, activity column content, and knowledge window content.Three dimensions for difficulty estimation. The second is to compare the difficulty of the new and old textbooks in three dimensions, and on this basis, analyze the influencing factors of the differences in difficulty.Furthermore,it will make suggestions on the use of textbooks and the preparation of textbooks based on the research results.By comparing the difficulty of the two new and old versions of the textbooks in Shandong Education Press with three dimensions,it can be concluded that the content of the new textbook is less difficult than the old textbook;the content of the new textbook activity column is more difficult than the old textbook;the content of the new textbook knowledge window is more difficult than the old textbook.Facing this kind of change, teachers should deal with the difficulty of textbook knowledge content, activity column content, and knowledge window content when using the new version of textbooks, and adopt a variety of teaching methods to help students overcome difficulties and improve teaching results. In the preparation of textbooks,we must also pay attention to the difficulty of grasping, arrange the content in accordance with the students ’cognitive level, design activities that conform to the rules of students’ recognition, and use reasonable presentation forms to help students expand their knowledge.
