The Impact Of Food Safety Standards On The International Trade Of Chinese Agricultural Products

In recent years,Chinese agricultural products international trade has developed rapidly,and it plays an important role in national economy and food security.But the developed countries implemented stringent food safety standards in order to protect the health of their residents and their agricultural markets,which greatly influenced on Chinese agricultural exports to them.With the deepening of Chinese agricultural opening up,our agricultural products exporting to EU market is also increasing,EU has gradually become the second largest market of Chinese agricultural export,ranking only second to Japan.Although agricultural trade between EU and China develops rapidly,but there also exists some problems.Chinese agricultural product such as vegetable-fruit group is competitive in EU market,but competitiveness is declining.The inhibiting effect of EU strict food safety standards is an important factor to it,the big food safety standards gap between China and EU is also a factor that can't be ignored,therefore studying EU food safety standards,Chinese food safety standards and the food safety standards gap between China and EU has great practical significance to our agricultural exporting situation of EU.Based on reading lots of literature materials,Combed Chinese and EU's food safety standard system,and take a comparison research.the article combines qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis,uses gravity model to analyze EU food safety standards,Chinese food safety standards and the influence of the food safety standards gap between China and EU to our agricultural exporting situation of EU.This paper first explains the meaning of food safety standards and the relevant theoretical basis;then the article analyzes the basic situation of Chinese agricultural trade as well as the food safety standards system between China and EU;finally it combining theoretical and empirical analysis first analyzes the action mechanism and trading effects of food safety standards,then focusing on fruit products,uses Stata 12.0 software to empirical analyze 10-year(2004-2013)panel data of EU-25 countries.The final results of the analysis show that the GDP of China and EU,the total population of EU and the GNI per capita promote Chinese agricultural exports;the stricter EU food safety standards are,the more obvious it makes to inhibit our fruit exports of EU is.The stricter Chinese food safety standards are,the more obvious it makes to promote our fruit exports is.However,the bigger food safety standards gap between China and EU is,the greater inhibiting effect it makes to our fruit exports of EU is.Finally,this article puts forward some suggestions to deal with food safety standards from three levels that are government,industry and enterprise.
