A Study On The International Competitiveness Comparative Of Information And Communication Technology Industry In Korea And Other Countries

ICT industry has always dominated the economic growth of South Korea,but with the low growth of the world economy and the ICT market becoming saturated,the crisis of ICT industry is deepening day by day.With the competitiveness of "software industry" becoming the core of ICT industry,Korea,with its hardware-centric industrial structure,is facing a new crisis.In order to deal with the crisis in the current ICT market environment that Korea is facing and chage it into an opportunity,this thesis compares the competitiveness of Korea's ICT industry with its main competitors,China,the United States and Japan,and puts forward some policy suggestions to maintain its development.First of all,through the domestic demand market and export scale,the number and sales of enterprises,R&D investment and results,industrial infrastructure four aspects of the introduction of ICT industry status.Compared with China,the United States and Japan,South Korea's domestic market is small.South Korea is the only OECD country in which exports of ICT goods have not decreased,but the proportion of value added from exports is low because of the small volume of finished goods exported.Looking at the structure of the Korean ICT industry in terms of enterprise size,the proportion of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Korean ICT industry is very high,accounting for 98%,but the proportion of small and medium-sized enterprises in the total output and sales volume is very small.The sales volume is basically created by large enterprises.And compared with other countries,South Korea's ICT manufacturing enterprises accounted for 63%,is the highest among four countries.From the perspective of R&D investment,ICT's PCT patent and paper achievement,Korea is at a relatively high level in the world,but the absolute value is the lowest in four countries.Comprehensive IMD and ITU ICT industrial facilities indicators,South Korea and the United States and Japan are in a high level.Secondly,this thesis analyzes the ICT industrial ecological structure of South Korea,China,America and Japan.The ecological characteristics of Korean ICT industry can be summarized as export-oriented,manufacturing-oriented and enterprise-centric.China's ICT industry,known as the world's manufacturing plant,is also biased towards manufacturing,but China's ICT service industry has also been growing rapidly in recent years.The ICT industrial ecosystem of the United States is the most balanced among the four countries,and the advantage of the Japanese ICT enterprises is that they have unique technology,so they have the ability to create high added value.Finally,this thesis uses "Meta-frontier" method to compare the technical efficiency of enterprises between countries,using input and output data,and divides the ICT industry into four industries:manufacturing,communication service,software service and content-media.The technical efficiency of ICT enterprises in various countries is analyzed.Judging from the"Technical Gap Ratio" which measures the highest efficiency of each country,Japan's communication service efficiency is very high.The United States shows extremely high efficiency in manufacturing,content,software and information service,while Korean enterprises are more efficient in ICT manufacturing industry.
