With the implementation of the "One Belt and One Road" strategy,tourism has become a key field of cooperation between China and 40 countries,which brings unprecedented opportunities for the development of the tourism economy in the regions along the route.Transportation infrastructure is an important bridge for connecting tourist destinations and destinations,playing an inseparable role in tourist activities.And the tourism economy,based on the tourism activities,is the sum of main economic activities and economic relations such as eating,housing,transportation and entertainment in tourism activities.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study the impact of transportation infrastructure construction on the development of tourism economy.This study focuses on transport infrastructure and tourism economy.According to the theories of tourism and transportation,based on the existance of correlativity between transport infrastructure construction and tourism economy,this study uses VAR Model,which is the abbreviation of Vector Autoregressive Model,to observe the dynamic relationship between the traffic infrastructure construction and the development of tourism economy in the Sichuan and Chongqing region,and also to study and analyze the long-term effects and the lagging influence of transport infrastructure construction bringing to the development of tourism economy in Sichuan and Chongqing region.With the time series data of four relevant indicators for the development of transportation infrastructure,tourism resources,local economic development,and the level of tourism economic development in Sichuan and Chongqing region during 1990-2016,this study establishes VAR models for the empirical research after passing the stability test,then it passes the Granger causality test and analyzes the causality between the the transportation infrastructure construction and the development of tourism economy in Sichuan and Chongqing region,resulting in the mechanism of action between variables.The final conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)The improvement of transportation infrastructure construction can become a powerful booster for the development of tourism economy.(2)In the short-term,the increase of the total length of water and land traffic routes in the Sichuan and Chongqing region will have an inhibitory effect on the growth of total tourism revenue,but it will be positive later in the period.The increase of the mileage of inland waterways has a more obvious driving role in the development of tourism economy,while the growth of railway mileage has no significant effect on the growth of total tourism revenue.However,the growth of highway mileage will have a significant inhibitory effect on the growth of total tourism income in the initial period,and it will only turn to a weak positive driving effect in the middle period.(3)The development speed of transportation infrastructure construction is faster than that of tourism industry,so it is necessary to pay attention to the synchronous coordination of the level of transportation infrastructure construction and tourism economic development.Finally,according to the problems found in the study,this study proposes the following development proposals:(1)Stakeholders should focus on the development of tourism products in the early stage of traffic engineering construction.(2)Enhance seamless connection through multiple modes of transportation cooperation.(3)Optimize traffic construction rationally to improve the spatial effect of the tourist attractions and so on.
