On the basis of the previous research literature,this paper points out five ways that the innovation upgrades the position of the global value chain division of labor.By using China Statisyical Yearbook on Science and Technology and TiVA data which published by OECD-WTO,this paper calculates the innovation efficiency,the GVC position index and the GVC participation index of 15 industries of China's manufacturing industry.This paper analyzes the innovation efficiency and the global value chain division of labor of 15 manufacturing industries in China,and this paper establishes a model to analyze the impact of the innovation efficiency on the global value chain division of labor in China's manufacturing industry.This paper holds that there are five ways to upgrade the position of the global value chain division of labor of China's manufacturing industry.Path 1: to move from the low end of value-added production to the high end of value-added production.Path 2: to move up the original global value chain from value-added production to high end production.Path 3: to increase the added value in the division of labor from production and assembly to brand service.Path 4:to increase the added value in the division of labor.Path 5: to move the global value chain to a new position.This paper finds that the innovation efficiency level of China's manufacturing industry is low.The innovation efficiency has been rising steadily Since 2000.The average innovation efficiency of most manufacturing industries is between 0.3 and 0.4.The trend of GVC position index can be divided into three stages.The first stage is the rapidly rising stage from 2005 to 2009.The second stage is the rapidly declining stage from 2009 to 2011;The third stage is the stably rising stage from 2011 to 2015.China's overall manufacturing GVC participation index is around 0.7 to 0.8.The overall GVC position index rank of China's manufacturing industry shows a trend of significant rise to slight adjustment,which can be divided into two stages.The first stage is the rising stage from 2005 to 2009.The second stage is the adjustment stage of slight increase or slight decrease from 2009 to 2015.The 2008 financial crisis has inhibited the improvement of the global value chain division of labor in China's manufacturing industry.The overall GVC participation index of China's manufacturing industry ranks highly,and China's manufacturing industry has a high degree of participation in global value chain.After Further researching,this paper shows that the improvement of innovation efficiency can promote the GVC participation index and the GVC position index in China's manufacturing industry.By using the rank of the GVC position index and taking the innovation of other countries into consideration,we find that the innovation efficiency has a positive effect on the improvement of the division of labor in the global value chain.Therefore,in order to improve the position of China's manufacturing industry in the global value chain division of labor,it is necessary to ensure the improvement of innovation efficiency and improve the international competitiveness of China's manufacturing industry in the global value chain division of labor.
