A brand new era of digital economy endows a period of opportunities for internet companies who are experiencing rapid development as well as unprecedented risks both internally and externally that also set out to challenge traditional industries,hence the increasingly potent value of organizational structure which is instrumental to not only the existence but also the development of a company.The thesis focuses on the organizational structure of internet companies with researches and summaries on the relevant theories while seeking to conduct a case-specific analysis under theoretical guidance.A qualitative and quantitative analysis is conducted,allowing an objective assessment on the effectiveness of the organizational structure of the target companies or the lack thereof,at the meantime offering perspective on a more comprehensive conclusion of the characteristics inherited in the organizational structure of internet companies while looking forward to its unfolding in the future,to hopefully provide ideas of significance in terms of designing the organizational structure for internet companies.The thesis,based on previous studies,employs a macro perspective to review the history of development of the Organization Theory to introduce and discuss the depth and development of the Classical Organization Theory,the Neo-classical Organization Theory and Modern Organization Theory.The fact that the emphasis of Organization Theory gravitates towards the external environment from improving efficiency with individuals internally,and more previously,internal assignments of responsibility and activities,is acknowledged.The trend demonstrates an increasingly wider range of inspection,as well as more complicated and varying challenges that companies are facing as far as operation and management are concerned,which requires companies to review the designing of their organizational structures and to take all factors into consideration.The thesis includes charts to conduct a comparative research on the differentiated features of the main organizational structure models,summarizing the birth,the pros&cons and the applicable cases of five categories of models that are the Classical Model,U Model,H Model,M Model and W Model,as well as ten specific types,to lay the theoretical foundation for the case-specific analysis.Based on the approaches mentioned above,the macro-theoretical research is employed to study the representative case on a micro level.As one of the world's top internet technology companies,T company has its fair share of superiority when it comes to the organizational structure,but not without recurring issues that compromise the operation and the development of the company.Surrounding the third round of the comprehensive reform on the organizational structure in the history of T company that took place in 2018,the thesis researches on the general context of time and industry,traces the history of the organizational structure of the company and analyzes the existing problems etc.,to conduct a qualitative analysis arguing that the T company's new round of adjustments on its organizational structure has been effective and focused.The thesis casts an objective assessment on five primary evaluations that are its compatibility with the company's actual situation,its adaptability to the external environment,internal operation&management efficiency,innovation and company performance developing-wise,as well as twenty corresponding secondary evaluations.The Experts Grading Method,the Analytic Hierarchy Process and the Fuzzy Synthetic Evaluation Model are applied for structural quantification and summary to result in an outcome relatively consistent with the qualitative analysis,that the adjusted organizational structure of T company is reasonable and effective with a 70 percent possibility of facilitating positive development and overcoming hindrance internally and externally in the future.To expand out from one case and with the basis grounded on the research and analysis in regards to the representative case,the thesis takes on a more macro perspective to investigate the aspect of internet industry,examining enterprises both inside and outside the internet industry,including Alibaba,Baidu,Facebook,Sinopec Group and Dongfeng Automobile.Thoroughly interpreting their organizational structure models gives access to an objective comparative analysis on the internet and traditional companies in terms of the characteristics and differences in their organizational structures,including delayering,virtualization,remodeling of front,middle and back offices,innovation and diversity.The thesis upholds a reasonable vision on the development tendency of organizational structure for internet companies,argues that the future direction of development might feature intensive delayering and lateral communication,the popularization of virtual organization,de-functionalization and the establishment of middle offices,as well as the transition from linear to dot structure.
