Overseas interests are an extension of national overseas interests and are the core and foundation of the country's overseas interests, which mainly includes foreign trade and foreign investment. The development of overseas economic interests can be divided into the colonial era and the post-colonial era and the new era of globalization. The representative of the colonial era was the United Kingdom, and the representative of the post-colonial era was the United States. In the era of new globalization,China's overseas interests have developed rapidly. At present, there are many studies on the overseas interests of the United States, but there are relatively few empirical studies on the overseas economic interests of the United Kingdom. The reason is that the expansion of the UK's overseas economic interests is inseparable from its colonial expansion history, and the colonial expansion history is often regarded as violent and bloody so there is no reference value. However,if we look back at the history of the development of British overseas economic interests in a dialectical way,we will find that the problems and experiences that arise in the course of its development are worthy of further investigation. Some of the problems facing China's overseas economic interests can be inspired. The study uses historical research methods and literature methods toreview the expansion and protection of British overseas economic interests from an objective perspective.Focusing on overseas trade, commercial market and foreign investment, the paper analyzes its expansion and protection models, and seeks experience and lessons from it.To provide inspiration for the expansion and protection of China's current overseas economic interests. The article firstly defines the connotation and composition of British overseas economic interests, and focuses on the three aspects of foreign trade, commodity market and foreign investment. Then, according to the composition of British overseas economic interests, the expansion of British overseas economic interests is examined in order of time.History divides it into five stages of development and summarizes the UK's means of maintaining its overseas economic interests.Based on the above investigations, the author summarizes the model of the British expansion and protection of overseas economic interests during the colonial period. Finally,by analyzing the experience and lessons of the UK's overseas economic interests, the paper summarizes the implications of the British experience on the expansion and protection of China's overseas economic interests.China and the colonial Britain are different in the background of the times. There are great differences in the expansion and protection of overseas economic interests.China will never use the unjust and violent means to expand and safeguard overseas economic interests. However, someexperiences of the UK to expand and safeguard overseas economic interests have inspired China. For example, the British government pays attention to the stable development of the domestic political and economic environment and actively supports businessmen;its foreign trade policy changes with time;and it attaches importance to the development of sea power. The entrepreneurial spirit embodied in the expansion of overseas economic interests by British businessmen is also worth learning. The lessons of the UK are also worth pondering in terms of technological development and common prosperity. This reflects the value of study on the expansion and protection experience of British overseas economic interests. When dealing with security issues, science and technology investment issues and international political and economic order issues,China can learn from British relevant experiences and make decisions based on specific backgrounds.
