The advanced transport infrastructure is often considered to be a major fector of China's economic miracle, and manufecturing industry also plays a key role in Chinese development According to the relevant theory,if the manufacturing industry can achieve long-term sustained growth,it will inevitably be accompanied by a rise in total factor productivity.Under the background of the large-scale development of transportation infrastructure and upgrading of manufacturing industry in China,The research on the effects of transport infrastructure on the total factor productivity of manufacturing industry has strong practical significance for understanding the productivity growth effect of transportation infrastructure and development of manufacturing industry.Previous studies mainly focuses on the spatial spillover of transport infrastructure to TFP of manuf&cturing,However, most of these studies have not uncfosed the "black box" hidden behind the relation, that is,the understanding of the mechanism of transport infrastructure on manufacturing TFP is still unclear. Therefore, this paper attempts to deeply explore the impact mechanism of transport infrastructure on manufacturing TFP through theoretical and enpirical research, with a view to understanding the relationship between transportation and industrial development.First, this paper summarizes the relevant theory and literature, which puts the important foundation to explore the mechanism of transport infrastructure on the total factor productivity of manufacturing industry in many aspects, and puts forward the hypotheses of this study from three perspectives:Cost Effect,Knowledge Spillover Effect,Human Capital Effect. In empirical research, based on the theoretical analysis, this paper exqlores an empirical study of the internal mechanism and influence between transport infrastructure and TFP with Chinese manufacturing sub-industry panel data from 2004 to 2016.And this paper uses DEA's Malmquist Productivity Index method to measure TFP with Chinese manufacturing sub-industry,and use the panel mediation effect model to introduce manufacturing cost, technology spillover and human capital as mediators. In this paper,we introduce three mediators:manufacturing cost, technology spillover and human capital to further study the impact of transport infrastructure on total factor productivity in manufacturing. The results indicate that both railway infrastructure and road infrastructure have significant positive impact on TFP of manufacturing, and railway infrastructure has the greater influence.Secondly,Manufacturing cost, technology spillover, and human capital has mediating effect between road infrastructure and manufacturing TFP.However, manufacturing cost and human capital don't have mediating effect between railway infrastructure and manufacturing TFP.Moreover sub-industry study shows that the effects of transport infrastructure on total factor productivity in manufacturing are different among different industries. In addition, railway infrastructure has the greatest positive effect on TFP of technology-intensive manufacturing, followed by capital-intensive manufacturing, and has significant lag effect on TFP of labor-intensive manufacturing.Road infrastructure has the greatest positive effect on TFP of labor-intensive manufacturing, followed by capital-intensive manufacturing, and has significant lag effect on TFP of technology-intensive manufacturing. In general, the empirical parts in this paper further suport the mechanism and research hypothesis and enriches the discussion on the relationship between transport infrastructure and total factor productivity of manufacturing, which has certain reference significance for transport infrastructure investment and manufacturing upgrading.
