| With the expansion of international division of labor and trade boundaries,China has been deeply involved in the global value chain(GVC)division of labor in various links.The improvement of the depth and breadth of economic globalization is both an opportunity and a challenge for China’s manufacturing industry.How to improve the technical complexity of China’s manufacturing export by participating in the global value chain is an important issue for China’s manufacturing industry,It is also the core issue to be studied in this paper.Firstly,this paper reviews the literature on global value chain theory,the concept of global value chain and export technology complexity,it also reviews the index measurement.By constructing the global value chain measurement index,the TIVA database is used to accurately estimate the degree and status of China’s manufacturing global value chain.It is found that although China’s manufacturing industry has a high degree of GVC,its index of GVC is in the middle level compared with other countries.By constructing the measurement index of export technical complexity,this paper compares the export technical complexity of China’s manufacturing industry by countries.The comparison shows that the technical complexity of China’s manufacturing exports has been rising in recent years,and the gap with some developed countries is narrowing.Secondly,in order to improve the technical complexity of China’s manufacturing export,this paper selected the panel data of 13 manufacturing industries in China from 2008 to 2016 for empirical research.It is found that the improvement of global value chain(GVC)has a positive effect on the technical complexity of China’s manufacturing exports.In terms of sub-industries,the higher the degree of GVCS ’embedding,the more labor-intensive industries can exercise skilled labor from GVCS and improve the technical complexity of their export.With the improvement of global value chain status,the capacity of China’s capital-intensive industries may be captured by technology,which has a negative impact on the technical complexity of exports.But the industry can learn useful skills from the backward linkages of GVCS participation.R&d can promote the absorption capacity of technology spillover from GVCS in knowledge-intensive industries,and promote the upgrading of technical complexity of export productsFinally,under the background of China’s deep integration into the global production network,this paper analyzes the strategies to increase the technical complexity of China’s manufacturing exports:Pay attention to play the role of FDI technology spillover;Increase investment in human capital to improve the level of human capital in China;Create a good business and institutional environment,and constantly improve the innovation environment;Optimize the global value chain spatial layout,optimize the global procurement and supply chain system,build and extend the value chain;Strengthen backward linkages in the participation of global value chain and give play to the "technology spillover" effect;Improve the level of value chain to both ends of the smile curve--the key parts manufacturing,research and development,design and marketing,and we should apply for patent authorization actively to build our own brands. |
