The Impact Of Agglomeration Of Producer Services On Structural Change Of Manufacturing Industry

To build a manufacturing power and promote the development of manufacturing from the low to the high end is an important part of building a modern economic system.The cluster of producer services produces a variety of effects,which further makes the intermediate investment in the manufacturing industry high-quality and efficient.It is considered as one of the driving forces for the upgrading of the manufacturing industry.The upgrading of manufacturing industry includes the upgrading of industrial chain position and the change of manufacturing structure.Existing literature mainly analyzes the relationship between the two from the position of industrial chain.This paper study through the perspective of manufacturing structure change,and finds that the economies of scale,professional service effects and knowledge spillover effects generated by the agglomeration of producer services are conducive to the development of manufacturing structure to high-end,but this also makes the differences of production efficiency of all levels manufacturing widened,if the flow of production factors is insufficient,it will not be conducive to the rational development of the manufacturing structure.In addition to the agglomeration effect,the agglomeration of the producer service industry will also bring about the crowding out effect,which is manifested in the resource competition between enterprises and manufacturing industries in the agglomeration area,which is not conducive to the development of the manufacturing industry.Therefore,there is no simple linear relationship between the agglomeration of producer services and the structural changes of manufacturing,which have different effects at different stages.Empirically,according to the detailed classification standard of manufacturing industry,this paper makes an empirical analysis on the agglomeration of producer services and the structural change of manufacturing industry by using the provincial panel data from year 2003 to year 2015.Considering that with the change ofagglomeration degree of producer services,the forms of manifestation of agglomeration effects are also staged,a threshold model is built to explore the non-linear relationship between agglomeration of producer services and manufacturing structure under different agglomeration levels.The study finds that,while the cluster of producer services promotes the high-end development of the manufacturing structure at the national level,it does not improve the rationality of the manufacturing structure.This conclusion is still valid under the robustness test,and there is regional heterogeneity and industry heterogeneity in this effect.Further study found that the effect of producer services agglomeration there exists a periodic forms.There is an "inverted U" relationship between the cluster of producer services and the high-end manufacturing structure,when the producer service industry concentration degree is less than 3.3315,shows positive effect,but when the concentration degree is greater than 3.3315,shows crowded effect,which will be harmful to high-end development manufacturing industry structure.
