The 21 st Maritime Silk Road is a trade network interconnected by harbor cities along the line and eventually radiating to other cities in the Mainland. It is a major adjustment of China's opening-up strategy, which is in line with the common needs of China and Southeast Asia,South Asia and West Asia.China will build a maritime power in a peaceful way. However, the economic level, political system and cultural atmosphere of countries along the Maritime Silk Road are different. There are also many geopolitical risks in these countries. The primary task of the joint construction of the Maritime Silk Road is to strengthen international regional economic cooperation. Therefore, studying the trade competitiveness and trade potential between China and the countries along the Maritime Silk Road has important practical significance for promoting China's economic development and promoting regional economic cooperation among these countries. The first part of the thesis is an introduction.First,it describes the research background and significance of the research. Then it combs the research results of the connotation and prospects of the Maritime Silk Road, trade competitiveness and its influencing factors, trade potential and its influencing factors, and expounds the research ideas and research methods. Finally,it points out the innovations and shortcomings of this dissertation. The second part of this thesis studies the trade competitiveness and its influencing factors between China and the countries along the Maritime Silk Road.Countries along the Maritime Silk Road are generally highly competitive in primary products.China and Southeast Asian countries are complementary in the non-food raw materials industry.China and West Asia are complementary in the fossil fuel industry.China and most countries along the Maritime Silk Road have high complementarity in laborintensive and capital-intensive products.China and these countries are competitive in different industries and complement each other in most industries,so China has great cooperation space and trade potential with these countries. The industry competitiveness influencing factors model shows that resource endowment does have a significant impact on the competitiveness of the industry.Improving the level of technological development and financial development can improve productivity and optimize resource allocation, thereby improving the competitiveness in both industries. The level of infrastructure is significantly positive in the machinery and transportation industry. The improvement of infrastructure level reduces the cost of trade, which is conducive to expanding the scale of exports and enhancing the competitiveness of the industry. The third part of this thesis examines the trade potential and its influencing factors between China and countries along the Maritime Silk Road. This thesis uses the data from 2007-2017 of China and these countries to construct a stochastic frontier gravity model and a non-efficiency model. The results of the study show that the trade efficiency is affected positively by the per capita GDP,population, infrastructure levels and the currency degree of freedom of countries along the Maritime Silk Road, while it is affected negatively by China's population, the geographical distance and the overall tariff level.Later, building the inefficiency model of the industry where the trade efficiency between China and the countries along the Maritime Silk Road in different industries was obtained,by which we can calculate the expandable trade potential. The results show that although the trade potential of China and the countries along the Maritime Silk Road in various industries has been fully explored,China and these countries have higher trade potential in the fossil fuel industry and machinery and transportation industries.China and these countries have greater cooperation space in the energy industry and capital-intensive industries. The fourth part of this thesis is about policies and recommendations. We should give full play to the comparative advantages of countries along China and the Maritime Silk Road, formulate different policies according to different countries and different industries, and expand the scale of intra-industry trade. We will upgrade the level of technological and financial development, actively launch bilateral and volatile free trade agreement negotiations, and rely on the Asian Investment Bank to improve the level of port infrastructure in these countries, thereby improving the trade efficiency between China and these countries.
