As a global city,Shanghai's urban development has always been valued with a lot of studies, while rural areas and its research have been marginalized. This paper take Wujing Township in Shanghai as a typical case, analyzes its rural spatial production process with the theory of production of space, and tries to reveal the driving force and mechanism of spatial production from different scales. The production of space in Wujing Township presents multiple separations: separations among productive spaces, living spaces and ecological spaces;separations among universities, scientific park, urban village and villages;and separations between migrants and locals. The fundamental reason lies in the fact that power and capital dominate the production of social space, which are unevenly distributed in the production of rural space, and finally lead to uneven development of social space. From the case studies of Heping village and Tangwan village, founding that the unbalanced distribution of capital, power and resources formed key villages and non-key villages. Not only are the residents living in multiple “high-tension lines”,but also the rural culture is gradually declining and disappearing.Although planning and policies such as beautiful rural construction have brought about the improvement of the built environment, community construction lacks motivation and vitality, which is also a common problem of rural construction in China. This is contrary to the planning goals of building preeminent global cities and the national strategy of rural revitalization. In the future,China's rural construction should focus on activating the pluralistic subjects of rural communities and combining topdown strategy with bottom-up social participation,to reshape new countryside based on locality.
