Since the reform and opening up,China’s rapid economic development has driven urban-growth into consumption time.With the improvement of material life level and the rise of consumerism, Residents’capacity and desire for consumption becoming stronger and stronger, Consumers’Behavior and types of consumption Space have diversified, the distinction between public space and consumption Space is blurred. Especially in the context of Globalization, Global capital and ideology are constantly impacting local development, The advent of new consumption Space possess the characteristic of Global has become a tendency.Shopping mall is the result of city suburbanization in the west society, it is the typical of new consumption Space,it also has Strong influence In the modern society. Shopping malls went through a long process over100years from embryo to maturity in the west society, While in China from embryo to substantive construction Only experienced30years, especially concentrate in the recent ten years. We needs more rationalistic thought about the construction boom of shopping malls.Therefore, this paper takes Nanjing Aqua City shopping mall as an empirical to study The production process and mechanism of the new consumption spaces based on the theory of production of space by Lefebvre, and further analyse The interaction of various social relations that related to shopping malls.Based on the referring to related literature inside and abroad and summing up,this paper constructs the space production theoretical model of shopping mall, and through Qualitative and Quantitative Methods to demonstrate and revise the theoretical model. The theoretical modle of space production of shopping mall Includes three dimensions:"the practice of space","the characterization of space" and "space of the characterization", the practice of space contains the practice of abstract space and the practice of everyday living space.The space production process shows the top-down control come from Interest groups(including government, developer and operator etc.)and the bottom-up resistance come from participants, this paper pays more attention to participants in the whole process.The practice of space of Aqua City shopping mall participants include traditional consumption, time consumption, tourism derivative activities, family activities and business.The characterization of space of Aqua City mainly is rendered by architectural form and color, text, symbols and human activities etc.The construction of Aqua City’s "space of the characterization" is based on activities’ place identity, through the translation of spatial imagine and the catalysis of daily Festivity.lt reflects the assimilation and alienation effect of aqua city’s"the characterization of space" on participant,and also reflects the opposition of daily life to Consumerism.The space production of Aqua City presents the relationship between global and local in a larger scale, aqua city is a medium which relates global with local. From the point of planning and design, Shopping mall like Aqua City which building is open would be beneficial to the integration of different social classes, and also be a complement of public space on a certain degree.From the perspective of city culture protection,shopping mall is not conducive to the continuation of local traditional, therefore we should pay more attention to the protection of traditional culture during the urban renewal process dominanted by shopping mall.
