As a local phenomenon, social memory is deeply embedded in local and real social experiences.Social memory, composed of social environment and personal cognitive emotions, has become an important bond for maintaining the relationship of place and people. In the study of local tourism, along with the changes in the social culture of tourism, the memory of local people has been aroused and reconstructed, and a new interpretation of local cognition and emotion has been made.As a city with rich historical and cultural tourism resources(including Terracotta Warriors,Huaqing Pool,Lishan Mountain, etc.),Lintong District of Xi'an has gradually developed from an unknown small county to a well-known city which is known as an international leisure resort with tourism industry as a pillar industry. In this development process, the changes in urban construction in Lintong District have brought about changes in local culture, prompting local residents to generate new knowledge and understanding of the localities. Therefore, this paper, taking Lintong District of Xi'an as its case study, uses qualitative research method,in-depth interview method and text analysis method to explore the intergenerational differences and construction process of local people's social memory,to study the characteristics of local sense expression and to reconstruct the action mode of social memory and local sense by making social memory society a pre-factor of the formation of local sense based on intergenerational theory. The basic conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)Through the summary of the literature, the social memory is divided into two levels of cognitive and emotional memory, and the cognitive memory is formed by the difference of the background of the inter-generational groups, with different memory levels and memory representations, and the formation and reconstruction of the cognitive memory.Initiates and enhances local identity.(2)The generation of the emotional memory is influenced by the change of the social and local culture, and forms the memory of the nostalgia, the change of memory andthe regenerative memory. The nostalgia memory evokes the local identity and strengthens the local attachment;the change of memory creates a reconstruction of the local attachment and forms a regenerative memory when the memory is re-written.The social groups show a distinct inter-generational difference in terms of local identity and local attachment. The regenerative memory can cause the past memory to be hidden or forgotten to form a new memory. In the different times, the social memory of the local people is constantly aroused, censored, and the new local memory is constantly written, and through this continuous process, the local sense is formed.(3)Under the background of local cultural changes, intergenerational relations continue to evolve, forming intergenerational groups with distinct characteristics, thus reflecting intergenerational differences among different generations, which is the characteristics of the times in the process of the construction of social memory. The process of social memory is an important factor in the reconstruction of local sense,so this study sums up the intergenerational differences of social memory and local sense of tourist destination residents and the mode of action between them, and puts forward some corresponding management suggestions.
