Agriculture is the basic factor of China's national economy while the peasants are the cornerstone of our society. As the most important social group in China, they have an extremely important status in both ancient and contemporary era.Nowadays,China is facing the reality that the urban-rural structure is not reasonable enough and the urban-rural gap become larger and larger. All these conditions determine that the foundation, key points and difficulties of the country's development are lying in the countryside.Due to differences in consumption habits and income structure, there is a very urgent issue that the rural residents are still in low consumption levels.Accompanied with the development of urbanization, whether the impact of rural residents' consumption is the same as that of urban residents',There is no definite conclusion. The new-type urbanization strategy puts the interests of residents in the first place,so that the rural residents deeply realize the benefits of urbanization. This study briefly analyzes the mechanism of the impact of urbanization on rural residents' consumption. On this basis,it collects the relevant statistical data of 30 provinces,Municipality directly under the Central Government and autonomous regions in China. Then this paper analyzes the characteristics and problems of rural residents' consumption in the process of urbanization and compares the differences of urbanization level and rural residents'consumption in different regions. The panel regression model is constructed to analyze the impact of urbanization on the consumption level and consumption structure of rural residents.Considering that there are many factors affecting consumption, some control variables are introduced into the model. The results indicate that:(1)There are obvious differences in the level of urbanization among different regions in China. The level of urbanization in the eastern region is relatively high, and the development of urbanization in the central and western regions has made some achievements, but there is still a certain gap compared with the eastern region. With the development of urbanization, the consumption level and consumption structure of rural residents have also changed, this kind of changes also have Regional differences.(2)Urbanization has significantly promoted the improvement of rural residents' consumption level, and the route for its impact may include income effect, demonstration effect and system guarantee effect.Population urbanization, economic urbanization and land urbanization all have a significant impact on the improvement of rural residents' consumption level,For every percentage point increase in the level of population urbanization, rural residents' consumption can increase by 0.272%on average. For every one percentage point increase in the level of economic urbanization, the average consumption of rural residents can increase by 0.753%,and for every one percentage point increase in the level of land urbanization, the average consumption of rural residents can increase by 0.053%,which shows that continuing to promote the construction of new urbanization will help to further release the consumption potential of rural residents and stimulate the domestic demand in our country.(3)The development of urbanization has a significant impact on the reduction of Engel's coefficient of rural residents, which shows that further urbanization has a significant effect on the improvement of rural residents' wealth.Among them, the role of economic urbanization is the most significant. For every percentage point increase in the level of economic urbanization, the Engel coefficient of rural residents can be reduced by about 0.519%.It shows that in the process of urbanization, promoting the transfer of industrial structure to the secondary and tertiary industries and gradually reducing the proportion of the primary industry will contribute to the improvement of rural residents' living prosperity.(4)The consumption level of rural residents has a lag effect. The reason may be that there is a certain lag in the change of consumption habits, that is to say,the current consumption will be more or less affected by the previous consumption and consumption habits. For a long time, the reason why the consumption level of rural residents in China is not high enough compared with that of urban residents may be caused by the following three aspects:firstly, the long-time moral concept of thrift formed in China;Secondly, the current consumer market in rural areas is not perfect, and the middle and high-end consumer market needs to be built.Thirdly, rural residents hold a wait-and-see attitude towards the future changes of rural appearance, which leads to some scruples in people's consumption at present.According to the results of the analysis, this paper puts forward some policy suggestions, such as improving the household registration reform system, making full use of the radiation function of big cities, promoting the stable growth of rural collective economy, and paying more attention to the quality-oriented education of rural residents.
