Abstract/Summary:
Under the background of interest rate liberalization, our commercial banks, which take the traditional deposit and loan business as the main source of income, ushered in unprecedented pressure and challenge.Interest rate liberalization led to further narrowing of the bank’s net profit, profit margins continue to decline, seriously affected the bank’s profitability in the future development. So non-interest income business has gradually become a new profit growth point of commercial banks. On the other hand, the rapid development of Internet finance has generated many new financial institutions and financial development models. The profit-making model based solely on spread income has become unsuitable for the development of the times. For small and medium-sized commercial banks, the competition from large state-owned commercial banks has also made the impact of non-interest income business ever more on them.Under such circumstances, transforming the business model and adjusting the income structure have become the inevitable choice for small and medium-sized commercial banks to develop in the future. Therefore, this paper focuses on the impact between non-interest income structure and business performance on small and medium-sized commercial banks. In this paper, firstly, the author introduces the relevant concepts and theories of commercial banks in expanding non-interest income business. Then the author compares the current status of non-interest income and interest income, and analyzes in detail the development of each component of non-interest income from 2009 to 2016.Next,a comprehensive index to measure the operating performance of small and medium-sized commercial banks is constructed by factor analysis. Finally,a panel data model is established to analyze the data of 11 small and medium-sized listed commercial banks from 2009 to 2016.The following conclusions are drawn:(1)The proportion of net fee and commission income was positively correlated with the bank’s business performance, but its effect on the business performance of the small and medium-sized commercial banks was not satisfactory;(2)Small and medium-sized commercial banks have got a gradual development in the business of investment income, which has played a certain positive influence on the bank’s own business performance;(3)The proportion of other business income is positively correlated with the business performance of small and medium-sized listed commercial banks. With the continuous development of business, the impact of other business revenues on business performance is more and more obvious;(4)The proportion of exchange net income has no significant positive correlation with the business performance of the bank. This is mainly due to the low proportion of the exchange net income in small and medium commercial banks. In addition, after the financial crisis, the fluctuation of RMB exchange rate in China Large, exchange gains have been severely affected. Finally, based on the comprehensive empirical conclusions, this paper puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions to our country small and medium-sized commercial banks to develop non-interest income business and adjust non-interest income structure in the future.
