Research On Tourists' Identification With Qingdao's Locality

Abstract/Summary:
Locality refers to the uniqueness and non-reproducibility of a place different from other places.Exploring the locality of tourist destinations is essential for the sustainable development of its tourism industry.This study takes Qingdao as an example to explore the tourists’ identification with Qingdao’s locality,to understand what local content is highlighted,which is retreated,and which tourist’s needs are not met,so that local tourism development can be found some deficiencies.Through theoretical construction and empirical analysis,this study summarizes the basic constituent structure of tourists’ identification with Qingdao’s locality,which to a certain extent enriches and improves the theoretical research of "locality".Taking "visitor’s perspective" as an entry point to study local identity,it provides a new perspective for clarifying the local construction between "others" and "ours".First of all,this article uses Grounded theory to open-code the travel notes,extract common categories,and perform axial coding and selective coding.Three main categories and six sub-categories are identified.The main categories include:identification of uniqueness,identification of living environment,identification of emotional internalization;sub-categories include: natural uniqueness,humanistic uniqueness,infrastructure conditions,self-requirements,emotion,and behavioral willingness.Based on this,it builds a local identity scale,the starting scale consists of 24 question items,after pre-testing the scale to check its reliability and validity,it finally determined a questionnaire consisting of 21 items in 6 dimensions.After passing the pre-test,the scale conducted a formal survey and conducted demographic characteristics analysis,exploratory factor analysis,and confirmatory factor analysis.Then,it discusses the problems in the development of Qingdao’s tourism industry,especially in terms of tourists’ local identity.Through the analysis of the questionnaire,the following questions are drawn: tourists are more likely to recognize Qingdao’s natural uniqueness,but they are not very agreeable in terms of humanistic uniqueness.The recognition of emotion is not high as well.Finally,aiming at the problems raised by the research institute,this article puts forward corresponding countermeasures,namely highlighting Qingdao’s natural uniqueness,improving humanistic uniqueness;improving infrastructure conditions and self-requirements;enhancing tourists’ emotional identification with Qingdao,etc.
