China has always been the world ’s largest target country for anti-dumping.In recent years, trade friction between the United States and China has intensified. To this end, this article studies the impact of global value chain positions on trade frictions encountered by China. This article analyzes the impact on trade friction of China’s global value chain in two different situations: leading and catching up.Using the match between the Global Value Chain Research Institute’s Global Value Chain data and the anti-dumping database data from 2000 to 2014,through empirical analysis,it is concluded that the position of China’s manufacturing industry relative to the global value chain is in an inverted U-shaped relationship with the trade frictions of the countries it encounters. In addition, segmenting industries, this paper classifies the manufacturing industry according to factor density and industry technology level, and further explores the impact of China’s relative global value chain position on trade friction. The conclusion of this article shows that in recent years, with the rise of China’s global value chain position,China has encountered more severe trade frictions as an inevitable result. But as the position of global value chains continues to rise, this situation will be greatly eased. At the same time, different factor-intensive industries and technology-level industries are different, and the rise of China’s global value chain position will have different effects on trade frictions. Therefore,on the one hand,China should not be afraid of the current international situation, adhere to independent innovation in science and technology, and maintain its own reform and opening-up strategy,so that the position of China’s global value chain will move towards the two ends of the smile curve. On the other hand, the trade frictions encountered inindustries with different factor intensities and at different levels of technology are properly viewed and actively addressed.
