Under the background of innovation-driven development, eliminating the boundaries of administrative divisions, promoting the flow and concentration of innovation elements between regions, and realizing the sharing of regional innovation results are of great strategic significance for promoting the harmonious development of regional innovation and accelerating the construction of an innovative country. From the perspective of mutual innovation between different regions,on the basis of scientifically measuring the comprehensive innovation ability of each region,it is the core content of this paper to examine the spatial association between innovation and the evolution of the structure of the network in China. This paper takes the spatial association of regional innovation as the research object.Firstly,it combs the domestic and foreign literature about spatial association of regional innovation, defines the connotation of spatial association of regional innovation and regional innovation, and summarizes the structural characteristics and evolution trend of spatial association of regional innovation.Secondly, considering innovation input, innovation output, innovation subject scale, innovation openness and innovation environment, this paper constructs a comprehensive evaluation index system of regional innovation capability, and uses projection pursuit model to measure the regional innovation level of 30 provinces and cities in China scientifically and reasonably. Then, this paper makes a spatial exploratory analysis of the measured regional innovation capability, and verifies the spatial correlation of regional innovation from the global and local perspectives.Furthermore, this paper uses the modified gravity model to measure the spatial correlation intensity of regional innovation in China, and constructs a valuable and directed spatial association network of regional innovation. Finally, this paper uses the social network analysis method to carry out static and dynamic analysis of regional innovation spatial association network in China, showing the overall shape, structural characteristics and evolution trend of regional innovation spatial association network in China. The results show that:(1)While China's regional innovation capability is increasing yearby year, the gap between regions is also expanding,as shown by the strong eastern region and the weak western region;(2)There is a positive spatial autocorrelation in China's regional innovation capability, forming a spatial distribution pattern dominated by “low-low”agglomeration;(3)China's inter-regional innovation linkages are becoming more and more close, but there is still room for improvement;(4)China's regional innovation spatial association network has a “core-edge” distribution pattern, and there are problems of inter-sector integration and linkage linkage;(5)China's regional innovation spatial relationship is gradually shifting from single-center drive to multi-center drive, and the correlation breaks through the geographical proximity law and turns to the innovation level proximity;(6)Each region and each sector has a distinct division of labor in the innovation-related network and plays its respective role. Finally, based on the research results, this paper puts forward several targeted suggestions: first,we need to jointly establish an open innovation platform to optimize the allocation of innovative resources;second,we need to break through administrative barriers between regions and promote the flow of innovative resources;third,we need to take the lead to promote integrated development;fourth,we need to build regional innovation systems with unique characteristics and complementary advantages.
