With the development of social and economic globalization and the proposal of the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" initiatives, more and more firms have begun to focus on the international market.Accelerating the pace of internationalization, actively exploring overseas markets, and improving the level of internationalization are important ways to improve the competitiveness and performance of Chinese firms.Since the middle and late 20 th century, information technology-based informatization, digitization, and intelligence are triggering a new round of technological revolution. At the same time,General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that "informatization has brought a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the Chinese nation." In the process of internationalization, the help of information technology is indispensable.Weak information technology will increase the asymmetry of information and inhibit the improvement of firm performance. The research purpose of this article is to explore the relationship between the degree of internationalization, information technology investment, and firm performance, and to verify whether information technology investment is an intermediary variable between the degree of internationalization and firm performance.Through research,we can deeply understand the impact of internationalization on the business strategy of China's firms, understand the role of information technology investment in the context of economic transformation and the information age,and explore the new path of internationalization to improve performance by affecting information technology investment. It is of great significance. This paper combines classic foreign direct investment theories and resource-based theories to study the impact of internationalization on firm performance, and then uses information asymmetry theory to analyze the relationship between information technology investment and firm performance. And further analyze the relationship between the degree of internationalization, information technology investment and firm performance, and put forward related assumptions.Furthermore, the Shanghai-Shenzhen A-share listed firms from 2014 to 2018 were selected as samples, and the data that did not meet the requirements were excluded. The multiple linear regression method was used to construct a regression model based on the proposedresearch hypotheses. Then,a statistical analysis of the regression results and a test of the mediation effect are used to verify the relationship between the degree of internationalization, information technology investment and firm performance. Finally, based on the results of the study, policy suggestions for improving the performance of Chinese firms are put forward. The research in this paper finds that the degree of internationalization has a significant positive impact on firm performance;the degree of internationalization can positively and positively affect the investment of firm in information technology;the information technology investment has a significant positive correlation with firm performance;Information technology investment is an intermediary variable between the degree of internationalization and firm performance, with some intermediary effects. This article takes the degree of internationalization as the starting point, analyzes and studies the impact on firm performance from the perspective of information technology investment, and conducts theoretical and empirical analysis on this research path.It provides theoretical support for firms to improve their performance by increasing the degree of internationalization and thus investment in information technology. It also provides a certain theoretical guidance and reference for the new path to increase enterprise performance. That is to say,the conclusion of this study is valuable for improving firm performance by increasing the degree of internationalization and increasing the investment in information technology.
