The "Silk Road on Land" has been an important channel connecting Eastern and Western cultures since ancient times, but no uniform trade agreements and traffic rules have been formed among the countries along the route, which has been unsooth. The western region occupies more hinterland than the eastern and central regions, but the development of foreign trade lags behind the other two regions. The proposal of the“Belt and Road” initiative, coupled with the construction of dry ports,is conducive to improving customs clearance efficiency and logistics service levels, accelerating the flow of factors and commodities between regions, driving regional economic and trade development, and providing strong policy support for the development of the western region.Adhere to the importance of both bringing in and going out, following the principle of mutual consultation, joint construction and sharing, and forming an open pattern in which land and sea are linked internally and externally, and East and West are mutually beneficial.Based on the above background and significance, the research ideas and research methods of this paper are: combined with qualitative explanation and quantitative analysis, firstly, through the review of relevant literature, the definition, function, development model and dynamic mechanism of dry ports are sorted out,and then the use of principal component analysis Method to analyze the competitiveness of representative dry ports in the western region;the comparative analysis method is used again to analyze the foreign trade of the provinces and cities in the western region in terms of trade scale and trade structure;finally, the relationship between dry port construction and foreign trade is analyzed using PVAR.Then use the panel model to analyze the impact of dry port construction on foreign trade. The results are as follows: First, the development status of several dry ports in Xi'an,Chengdu,Chongqing,Lanzhou,Urumqi, and Guiyang is analyzed in depth to provide a basis for their competitiveness evaluation. The result is that Xi'an dry port has the highest level of competitiveness.Chongqing Dry Port followed, and the competitiveness of Lanzhou Dry Port,Urumqi Dry Port and Guiyang Dry Port needed to be improved;the foreign trade analysis of provinces and cities in the western regionwas conducted again. In terms of trade scale, the overall foreign trade in the western region from 2007 to 2017 The level of development shows an upward trend, and the foreign trade development of the provinces where the land port is located: Chongqing and Sichuan are in the leading position in import and export, but the import and export volume of Gansu and Xinjiang are both low,and Gansu Province has experienced a trade deficit for more than a decade. The current situation of trade surplus is very obvious;in the trade structure,it is still dominated by general trade, although processing trade has increased, but the range is not large; Finally, the panel model is used to explain the variables of dry port characterization and related factors that have an impact on foreign trade.Taking the scale of trade and trade structure as the explanatory variables for regression analysis, the estimated results show that: in terms of scale of trade, the construction of dry ports has a positive impact on the import and export of cities in the western region,of which the impact on exports is greater; In terms of structure, the construction of dry ports also has a positive effect on the general trade and processing trade of cities in the western region,of which the effect on processing trade is particularly obvious. Finally, based on the results of empirical analysis, the differential method makes recommendations to each dry port, and then Policy support direction, talent training direction,inter-regional cooperation methods, trade structure, etc.,put forward countermeasures and suggestions for the future development of dry ports in the western region.
