Research On The Relationship Between Manufacturing Agglomeration And Urban Innovation Capabilities

As an important phenomenon in the process of regional economic development,one of the advantages brought by the externality of it to a city is the improvement of innovation ability,which has become an important embodiment of the comprehensive competitiveness of a country,region and city.Based on the data of 12 cities in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Province from 2007 to 2016,this paper studies the status quo of manufacturing agglomeration and city innovation ability as well as the relationship between them.In terms of theory,this paper reviews the existing papers from the perspectives of industrial agglomeration theory and innovation theory.This paper finds that scholars have different views on the relationship between manufacturing agglomeration and innovation ability,mainly positive or negative,linear or non-linear differences.At the same time,this paper finds that the previous papers studied from the perspective of city is still less.Based on the theoretical research,this paper holds that through effect and advantage,manufacturing industry agglomeration has an impact on city innovation ability.In the empirical aspect,based on the threshold regression model proposed by Hansen(1999),this paper constructs a double threshold regression model,and draws on Hansen's test method for the authenticity and significance of the threshold value to get two thresholds.On this basis,this paper has carried on the double threshold regression and OLS regression respectively,and has carried on the comparative analysis to the two kinds of regression results.The research results of this paper include,first,there is a nonlinear relationship between manufacturing agglomeration and city innovation ability,and there is a threshold effect between them.Second,in different stages of economic development,there are two positive and negative aspects of the role of manufacturing agglomeration on city innovation ability.Specifically,when the level of economic development is low,the low-end manufacturing agglomeration may cause "lowlocked",which is not conducive to the improvement of urban innovation capacity.When the level is medium,it has a slight positive effect.When the level is high,it has a strong positive effect.Based on the influence mechanism,the policy suggestions are,first is to take part in the high-quality integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta to promote the construction of innovation highland of Jiangsu and Zhejiang manufacturing industry.Secondly is to use the agglomeration effect of manufacturing to form innovation advantage by reducing costs,protecting intellectual property rights and encouraging market competition.Thirdly is to use the advantage of agglomeration manufacturing by improve innovation ability by building innovation network,gathering innovation resources and creating advantageous industries...
