For a long time, economic growth and income disparity have been constantly entangled in the development of a country. This kind of problem is particularly prominent in our country.Due to China's rapid development in recent years and the attempt to use the policy of "rich first to drive rich later",regional development has become extremely uneven, forming a situation in which the east is developed, the middle is generally, and the west is backward. At the same time, the urban-rural income gap within the region is also expanding. These problems have gradually become a problem that plagues my country's development. In recent years, the government has actively taken measures to focus its attention on the income gap of residents, and put forward the policies of "building a well-off society in an all-round way" and "precision poverty alleviation".All these indicate that under the premise of my country's pursuit of regional economic growth, alleviating the urban-rural income gap has become an urgent issue. In the rapid development of our country, the development of transportation infrastructure has played a vital role. Many scholars pointed out that transportation infrastructure has a promoting effect on our economy, and have evolved the saying "to get rich, build roads first",Some scholars have suggested that transportation infrastructure will also promote regional resource agglomeration, which will have a negative impact on the economy. However, there are relatively few studies on the income distribution effect of further transportation infrastructure, and there is still room for further research. Therefore,by combing the current research status of scholars, this paper uses the dual structure theory, the urban-rural income gap theory and the transfer cost to establish a theoretical model in which transportation infrastructure affects the urban-rural income gap directly and indirectly. At the same time,in order to verify this influence mechanism, based on the data of prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu Province,an intermediary effect model with the resident population urbanization rate as the intermediary variable was established.Disposable income reflects the urban-rural income gap,and considers whether there are differences in performance in different regions of southern Jiangsu, central Jiangsu, and northern Jiangsu. The study found: First, for prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu Province, the level of transportation infrastructure development will have an inhibitory effect on the urban-rural income gap between regions. This inhibitory effect is achieved by reducing the transfer costs and promoting the transfer of rural residents.Second, there are regional differences in the suppression of the urban-rural income gap.Compared with the province and the economically developed southern Jiangsu, the improvement of the transportation infrastructure in northern Jiangsu has a greater inhibitory effect on the urban-rural income gap.Third,in the case of the whole province and southern Jiangsu, the urbanization rate has a complete intermediary effect, while the transportation infrastructure in the northern Jiangsu area has both direct and intermediary effects on the urbanization development. It does not show that the development level of transportation infrastructure has promoted the urbanization rate, which is why the development level of transportation infrastructure in the northern Jiangsu area has a more obvious inhibitory effect on the urban-rural income gap,but has no effect on the central Jiangsu area.
